Most nights I turn on Netflix in the living room and beg my parents to watch a movie with me. I don’t mind watching movies alone, but I much prefer watching with other people. I have been passing this movie a lot lately, stopping to read the information and then moving on. I finally decided that my parents and I would finally watch this movie and I am so glad that we did!

First of all, you throw in the word Zombie and I will roll my eyes and add it to my list of movies to watch.  I love zombie movies and they seem to have gotten worse over the years. I love the cheesy, crappy, B-movie vibe to them.

Wyrmwood had a three star rating on Netflix, so it was basically a go. Anything over 2 stars we will give a go.

It actually starts out like any other zombie movie. One day everything is fine, the next day everyone is waking up to zombies digging around in their kitchen, or being a zombie themselves. It’s all serious running from zombies and watching the main character killing his family after they have turned.

One man gets his head blown off in the woods because the idiot with the gun thought it was another zombie. And the hilarity starts.

Yes, this is not just a horror movie, it’s a comedy. I don’t know if what meant to come out that way, but it did and I loved it!

The only thing that really struck me as odd was the beginning. There is a photoshoot and the model basically spazzes out and turns into a zombie. She was not bitten, she didn’t die…she just becomes a zombie. It just didn’t make much sense really. And while it bothered me at first, I realized how genius and hilarious it is that green gas seems to come from the zombies mouths. My favorite line of the movie “He is farting out of  his mouth.”

I went into this looking for a dumb zombie movie. I got my dumb zombie movie, but I enjoyed it fare more than I thought I would. It made me laugh and I like a good horror/comedy that makes me laugh.

I have read some of the reviews for this movie and there seems to be a lot of hate. Yes, it is a low budget movie and the acting isn’t so great, but it was a very entertaining movie and I would watch it again in the future.

This movie has its ups and downs and in the end I give it a 7 out of 10. It’s funny and different and I love all the Australian accents.

What Are You Reading?

Ugh, I leave for a week and come back to WordPress changing everything. I hate when they change stuff around, they give you just enough time to get used to everything and then BOOM! Everything changes. It’s annoying really.

Anyways, sorry for being away for a week. I needed to rethink some things. I think I am getting burnt out on blogging, or just tired of lacking direction. I had actually considered shutting this blog down and starting a new one, but I don’t want to lose what few followers I have now.

I realize that I haven’t done a “What are you reading?” post in a few weeks, but it’s because I was stuck on the same book. I took me way to long to get through it! But I have finally moved on!

Moving on to what you all came here for!

I am currently only reading one book. Shocker I know!

It’s A Mad Zombie Party by Gena Showalter

Let me tell you, this is the last book in the White Rabbit Chronicles and I am so in love with it. I have flown through every single book like it was nothing. They are just so good! It’s like the perfect balance of action, story, and romance. And we all know that romance is what really drives me to read faster. I don’t know why, I guess it’s because I lack romance in my own life. Where there is a love story, you best believe Heather will be there!

If you have not read any of the White Rabbit Cronicles by Gena Showalter, I suggest you take some time out and do it now. I love it so much!

Tell me, what are you reading?

Let’s Travel Back In Time

The other day I came across an article on Pinterest about podcast that are good for writers to listen too. I have become that weird person that doesn’t like to listen to the radio when I drive. Actually, the only time I like to listen to music is when I am writing, and most of the time that is some kind of electronica music that has no words.

Since I have an iPhone and there is a wonderful app for podcast, I looked up a few of these podcast to see if I would like them. (You can find the article HERE) I got as far as finding two of them, following them, and listening to maybe 5 minutes of one of the episodes. It wasn’t that I got bored, I just saw something that I found a little more interesting.

See, a few years back I started following the “Welcome to Night Vale” podcast. I didn’t get in too far before I found it a little boring and forgot about it. While looking for these podcast for writers I found a podcast called “We’re Alive.” It’s a zombie survival story by Wayland Productions.

I started listening to it, thinking it was going to be like listening to a book on audible. I was wrong, not completely wrong, just a little wrong. This is like a book on audible, but with sound effects!

You remember seeing movies about the old days, where people would sit in front of their radios and listen to shows? That is what this is like. Maybe you already know about this and I am just a little slow to the game. Or maybe this is a secret that was lost along the years that people are just now starting to find again. It’s great!

It’s like reading and watching a show all at the same time, but using more brain power in the process. Does that even make sense?

I will get around to listening to the other podcast for writers. I want to know all the tips and info that I can find, to make my own writing better. And it would be great to listen to them while I am doing my crafts.

Do you listen to podcast? Are there any you would suggest?

Book Review: Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Alice in Zombieland

I read this book in three days.  Which has not been the case with recent books I have read. Don’t worry, I read the second one just as fast and I am terribly annoyed that I have to wait until September 20th to read the final book.

Alice Bell has never been out at night.  Her father forbids it and if there is a chance they will not be home before the sun sets, they will just stay at home.  Alice’s father sees monsters and is also an alcoholic.  She thinks it’s all in his head…until one haunting night when her family dies in a car wreck.  Finally, once her parents and her little sister are gone, she sees what her father saw.  The monsters that have haunted her father for years.  She now knows the truth, the monsters are real.

At first she thinks she has gone crazy because of the trauma.  That is until she meets Cole Holland.

My Opinion:

Honestly, this book had me hooked from the first chapter.  I couldn’t put the book down.  The first night I read I was falling asleep trying to read the book.  Not because it was boring, but because I was super tired.  Then you got a little introduction to Cole, and you know instantly that there is going to be some kind of romance in the story.  If you want to reel me in after you have hooked me, throw in a gorgeous bad boy who is secretly a really nice guy. I can’t help it, I am a sucker for a good love story.  Add zombies to the mix and I am done.

I was up until 6 am just about every night, reading this book.  I just could not put it down.  It was an emotional roller coaster and I didn’t want to get off until I was forced off.

After reading the book (and quietly crying because it was over) I went to goodreads and read a few reviews, just to see what others thought about it.  A few people loved it, but others hated it.

The biggest complaint I saw was that it had nothing to do with Alice in Wonderland, like the title implies. I say, the people who think this didn’t take the time to really think about the book.

Let me lay it out for you, without ruining the book for you.

Alice just fell down a rabbit hole, but it wasn’t a hole and she wasn’t following a rabbit.  It happened in the form of a car wreck that killed her entire family.  She is thrown into a whole new world.  A world without her parents and little sister.  She goes to live with her grandparents who she doesn’t know very well, and she is sent to a new school.  It’s a new world and it’s full of strange things now that she can see the zombies.

Where is the mad hatter?  Cole Holland IS the mad hatter.  He is slightly unstable but you can’t help to want to be around him, at least Alice couldn’t help it.

There is even a white rabbit! It’s in the form of a cloud and it shows up at certain times to warn Alice about something.

It is Alice in Wonderland…with Zombies.

Should You Read It?

If you like zombies and love stories then yes! Please go read it.  There is a whole new twist to zombies and I love it.  Alice is an actual character who is so stubborn that you will want to reach in the book and shake some since into her.  She isn’t one of those blank characters, created just so some girl can throw herself into the book and pretend it’s her.  You will be annoyed with Alice, jealous of her, angry, and happy for her.

And let’s not forget Cole. If only there were more Cole’s of the world.  A Cole for every girl. *Sigh*

I was supposed to have a fun, quick craft to post today.  And I have everything ready for it.  But, I want to complain a little bit and share my adventure from yesterday.

I had just gotten off work.  I was tired and just ready to go home.  The radio wasn’t playing anything good, so I popped in a CD.  The CD wouldn’t load so I tried to take it out and it got stuck.  While trying to get it back out, the CD player ate it and started playing it…I swear there is some kind of fairy or goblin, or fairy goblin, living in my CD player in my car.

I was driving down the road, singing along to the radio, smiling and thinking about my week.  Of course, it was raining and my car does not like rain!  It starts running weird, like a child being drug through a grocery store!

All of a sudden POP!  FLAP FLAP FLAP!! I quickly pull the car over because it sounds like I have a flat tire.  It is pouring down rain, so I roll my window down and check the tires on the driver side, everything is good.  I crawl over into the passenger seat, roll the window down and stick my head out.  Everything is good.  My tires are not flat!  I noticed a spoon laying on the road, so I just figured it had gotten under my car and caused the weird sound.

I rolled my windows up, and merged back on to the road.  FLOP FLAP FLOP!  Now, I am freaking out! I have no clue what is going on.  I pull into a gas station, which was thankfully just a few seconds down the road.  I should mention that the road was clear of cars at the time as well.  Thank you Jesus!

After I stop my car and cut it off, I get out…in the rain!  I look under the car to see if anything is stuck under there.  AND OMG!! There was a ZOMBIE!!!  He was growling and clawing at the air trying to get me.  Looked like he hadn’t eaten for days, and he was definitely one of the first people to get the virus!

Just kidding!

There was nothing under my car.  So I popped the hood.  Now, I don’t know a lot about cars, but I know enough to spot when something isn’t right under the hood.  Nothing looked out of place, all the belts were there, nothing looked like it was missing.  So I called my mom and her and my dad came and got me.

My dad did all the stuff I did, and found exactly the same thing I found…NOTHING.  I got back in my car and my dad rode with me, as my car picked up speed you could hear FLAP FLOP FLAP!  Something was seriously wrong, but we didn’t know what.

I pull over on the side of the road, right in front of the house that I so desperately want to buy.  We pulled into the grass a little bit and the owner of the house came out with a shotgun!  Started shouting telling us we had to get off his property.  He was dead serious too!  He was pointing the gun at us when this dog came out of now where and ripped the guys throat out!  He was like Cujo or something…except, he came charging at me, wagging his tale as blood covered his snout.  He jumped up on me and licked my face.

Just kidding!

No one lives in the house that we pulled up in front of.  It’s been for sale for the past two years.  One day I will buy it.

Anyways, my dad looked at my tire and found that the tire was coming apart.  A strip of rubber had pulled away and wrapped itself around the tire axle.  My dad had to cut it off so that we could drive to get new tires.

Which we did…337 dollars later and I have 4 new tires and a really awesome story to tell people.

I finally got home and played sims…I just couldn’t handle anything else.

But unfortunately, there was more to come.

I went into my bathroom to get ready for bed, the light bulb had went out so I had just put in a new one.  It was super bright!  Which may or may not have been a good thing.

I have a hole in my bathroom wall near my tub.  I just happened to look down at it to see this massive spider just chilling out.  ICK!!  I tried to kill it with a shoe, but that sucker crawled into the hole.  So I drown the hole with hair spray and tapped it up with duct tape.  Ghetto?  Yes, but I didn’t have to worry about that spider anymore…at least I hope I don’t have to.

I am sorry for keeping you so long, but I hope you enjoyed my torment.  I will return next week with more crafts, baked goods, and horror stories of my awkward life!

Have a grand weekend folks!
