This is a collective review of the first 5 original books. With the books being so short I didn’t want to write a review for each individual book

First I want to start with the covers. My copies are the 2013 editions and the covers are just as magical and beautiful as the original covers. I hope to eventually get the hard cover edition in the original images. While they are different, they are both just as well done as the other. They do exactly what any cover should do, they give you a picture of what the book is about that you are reading.

I have seen the Spiderwick Chronicles movie. I loved the movie and thought it was adorable. But then I read the books and as any book lover would say, I loved the books more than the movie.

It doesn’t happen often that I will actually read a book if I have already seen the movie. I just can’t get the image of the things happening in the movie to allow my mind to get lost in the book. That said, the books are so different from the movie! So much happens differently and I was surprised to see how much had been changed from the book to movie.  Then again, it has been a while since I have seen the movie and may need to revisit it.

But this is about the books, so let’s forget about the movie and move on.

My favorite book in the series was “Lucinda’s Secret.” This is the book where the Grace kids come across the elves and are almost trapped by the sneaky creatures. I think I just love how the elves were portrayed as these all knowing and powerful creatures.

My next favorite was “The Ironwood Tree.” It put me in the mind of the “Iron Queen” series by Julie Kagawa. I love the idea of things being made of iron and how the iron animals roamed around. I also loved the little creature that the Grace kids came across that spoke to the rocks and helped the kids escape the cave they were trapped in.

Over all, this was a great series. I wish there was more to the series so that we could continue to follow the Grace family as they explore this world of magical and mythical creatures, now that they no longer have to worry about Mulgarath trying to kill them. I want to see what happens with Mallory and the cute guy at school. What happens with Simon and all of his pets, and what magical creatures will he try to keep as pets. And I want to know how the relationship between Jared and these creatures grow. I feel like so much more could be done with this series and I kind of hope that one of the authors decides to pick it back up and continue on with the story. I know I will be one of the people impatiently waiting in line for when that book would go on sale.

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends! Happy Monday. I hope it’s not too terrible for you all. Especially since most of you have the day off.

This week I am still listening to Finders Keepers by Stephen King.

I am about 2 hours from finishing this book and I can’t wait to get it finished.

I am currently reading the Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. I’m just on the second book The Seeing Stone.

Now, the first book I read in an hour. Sure it could have been faster if I had been focusing, but my focus is a little shot at the moment. I love that these books are so short and quick to read. And they are adorable and fun. I love anything to do with fairies, so I knew I had to finally read this series. I bought the collection in paperback but now that I know I am going to love them I want to get them in hardback as well.

I am also reading The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

I have actually set this book on the back burner. I have enjoyed reading it, but other things have grabbed my attention so I have not been reading this book as much. I might have peeked through the story a little bit and was a little disappointed in some things that I saw, but I am going to read this book and get through it. If I don’t care for it, I will move on and not bother with the rest of the series. Which, may happen. I love Gena Showlater’s YA novels, so I was hoping to love her adult novels too. I haven’t lost hope yet though.

Lastly, I am reading Figment by Cameron Jace. The second book in the Insanity series.

I loved the first book and read it back in October, so it has been a while. But I remember most of it, may have forgotten a few details,  but for the most part I am up to speed. The second book, I just started reading it yesterday, is extremely interesting from the start. I hope to push through this one and the rest of the series by the end of next month, which would be fantastic! I also love anything to do with Alice and Wonderland…You put Wonderland on something and I will read it, buy it, collect it, cherish it, stalk it…yep, mild obsession.

Tell me, what are you reading?
