First Line: “Ember, when did your parents die, and what was the cause of the death?”

Synopsis:Ember is a dragon, disguised as a human. Her task for the summer is to blend in with the humans, gain their trust, and prove to Talon that she is ready for whatever job she will be best at…for the rest of her life. Her biggest fear is that they will separate her and her twin Dante. And she hates that Talon chooses everything she does.

Garrett is a St. George soldier, trained to hunt and kill dragons. His task for the summer is to blend in with the normal humans and sniff out the dragon that is trying to pass as human. He doesn’t know the first thing about being a normal teenager and when he meets Ember he questions everything about the order and the truth about dragons.

Review: This book was pretty good. Had I actually read it instead of listening to the audio version, I would have loved it! The person reading Ember’s parts was so bland and boring. I didn’t like it.

But the story was really great. I loved the idea of dragons hiding among humans, learning everything about them, gaining their trust. I love that Ember was a strong enough character that she questioned everything she had ever been taught and saw the flaw of Talon.

Warning: Spoiler ahead. Move on to conclusion to skip spoilers. You will have to forgive me for the spoilers, but I just have to let my thoughts be heard. Last chance to move on before I let the spoilers fly free! Okay, Let’s talk about a few things that irritated me the most. Dante…he spends this entire book telling Ember that they will not be separated. He grows further and further from her. He becomes the dragon Talon wants him to be, even when Ember is trying so hard to make him see the truth. Then, when Ember is assigned her life long task, he doesn’t even bother to tell her what she is being signed up for. She has to go to someone else to find out. THEN!! He turns her in to Talon when she tries to go Rogue and take him with her. She just wants her brother to stay by her side and he turns his back on her. Way to go Dante…what a great brother you are! And then there is Garret. Oh Garret…he falls in love with Ember and still loves her after finding out she was the dragon he was sent to kill! It was so great.

Conclusion: This book is about thinking for yourself and not taking things at face value. It is about growing up in a world where everything is decided for you and questioning it to the point where you find the truth. It’s also about dragons that can take human form! Who doesn’t love a good dragon book? I think Julie Kagawa has done it again. She has opened my eyes to a whole new world and I love ever second of it! Don’t let the negative reviews keep you from giving this book a try!

What Are You Reading

I have finally cut down on my books that I am currently reading. Thank goodness. This week I am down to 4, but one is an audio book.

Solarversia by Toby Downton

24110299

Small Favor by Jim Butcher

927979

As much as I love the Dresden files this book keeps taking a back seat to all the other books and I need to stop doing that.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

16096824

I have been so excited about this book. I couldn’t hold back any longer. I actually searched through my TBR jar just to find this one. So many people have said wonderful things about it. I had to read it now. Also, OMG the cover is amazing!

And lastly, the audio book I have been listening to all month

Talon by Julie Kagawa

That is all I have on my plate this week and I am hoping to get them all out of the way this week. It may not happen, but I will try!

Hello Nerds!

Finally moving along with my reading. But I have so much to read. I haven’t been giving enough time for reading, I need to fix this! And more stuff coming in weekly. Not just the books I buy, it seems my name is getting out there and self-published and small press authors are seeking me out for reviews. I’m so excited!

Moving on to my list this week.

I’m reading a new one called Solarversia by Toby Downton. It’s not actually out for the public, but the author contacted me on twitter after I made a comment about Ready Player One. 🙂

24110299

So far the concept is very intriguing and I can’t wait to read more.

Last night I read Delilah Dusticle by A.J. York

22008525

Very cute book. You can catch my review over at TRB when it is published there. But I enjoyed the story! And now I am reading the second novel called Delilah Dusticle’s Transylvanian Adventure.

22008519

I am still reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

20560137

I have only been reading this on my breaks at work. But it has gotten so good that I may have to sit down on my next day off and finish it.

Of course I am still working on Small Favor by Jim Butcher

927979

And Talon by Julie Kagawa

What Are You Reading

To be honest, I am reading the same things I was reading last week. Blarg. It has been a slow week for me. Basically because I have been working most days and I picked up writing again. I was starting to feel a little down, so I had to start writing again. Now I will write for an hour a night before making it to bed. Which, of course, cuts into my night time reading.

I think I try and do too much, but I am getting myself on a better schedule. I am working on making reading and writing my main priority in my life. I just wish I got paid for either. In a perfect world I would be paid for both, but this isn’t a perfect world, and what I love to do doesn’t pay. Ugh, life.

Let’s jump into this.

The Watch Tower by Darke Conteur.

12810646

I only have a few minutes left of this book. I tried to finish it last night, but I was so tired that I started falling asleep while trying to read it. I will probably finish this today.

Talon by Julie Kagawa

17331828

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this book. Maybe it would be better if I was reading it instead of listening to it. This may be one of those series that I start and never finish. But I still have a ways to go in this novel, so we will see how things pan out. I think the narrator for Ember just has a very boring voice and it annoys me.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

20560137

I am so loving this book. I have been reading it at work on my breaks. So…30 minutes or less at a time. I will focus on it more when I finish up a few other books.

Forging Divinity by Andrew Rowe

24929067

I think I am finding it a little hard to really get into this novel. It’s okay, but it’s not really my thing. I will finish it and I will give you all an interview with the author, but it’s jut not my cup of tea.

Small Favor by Jim Butcher

927979

There isn’t much to say about this one. I love Jim Butcher and Harry Dresden. This is another one that is slow going for me because I have so many books I am reading at once.

My plan this week is to get these books finished and off the table so I can move on. I think I might cut down on how many books I am reading at a time and start focusing more on my reading speed, so that I can get through these books faster, before I fall behind on my goal this year.

I found this website that I am going to try and see if it helps with my reading speed. It’s a site called Spreeder. It’s supposed to help you learn to speed read without losing comprehension. I could use a boost in my reading speeds.

So, what are you reading this week? And do you have any tips to help speed up my reading?

What Are You Reading

Hello Nerds!

Can I call you nerds? I’m going with it. If you get offended you must not understand how awesome it is to be a nerd… I have been called a nerd for most of my life and it suits me.

Moving on! What am I reading this week? A lot of the same from last week really.

I am back to The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher and currently reading Small Favors

927979

I haven’t been reading the Dresden Files books because I have been reading so much of everything else. But, I missed Mr. Dresden and I had to go back to him. I forgot how much I love him.

I am slowly making my way through Forging Divinity by Andrew Rowe. It has been a little slow but I am finally getting to the meat of the book and kind of like it.

24929067

I am still reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. It’s so good!

20560137

For TRB I am reading The Watchtower by Darke Conteur. I don’t have much to say about it right now as I haven’t read much at all. But I am hoping to get through it this week. It’s a short novel, only 90 pages long, so I should be able to power through it pretty quick.

12810646

And lastly, I started a new audio book this week. It’s another book by Julie Kagawa, Talon. So far I like the story, but the person reading the book has such a bland and boring voice. I’m starting to wonder if I would be better off reading this book instead of listening to it.
