Book Tag: Rainbow Spines Book Tag

Book Tag

Hello Friends! I decided I wanted to try something a little different for Thursdays. Usually I would do a movie review, but that isn’t working out so well…is it? Besides, writing movie reviews of movies that have been out for years got a little boring. Though, I may have something a little special in the works for October regard scary movies!

Anyways, I thought maybe instead of doing 4 movie reviews a month, maybe cutting that down to 1 or 2 and then doing book tags on the other days. There are a TON of book tags in the world. So today I am doing the Rainbow Spine Book Tag!

If someone could please tell me who created this tag so I can give proper credit that would be fantastic!

First Line:

It would not be a welcome dawn.

This cover is so gorgeous. I would have bought this book on the cover alone. The blurb just made that much more desirable.

Shahrzad is 16 years old, and she is out for revenge. The King, Khalid, has been marrying young girls of his kingdom and bringing them to their end before dawn. His recent victim was Shahrzad’s best friend. Now, she has volunteered to be the kings next bride and she doesn’t plan to come to the same fate as his last victims, in fact, she plans to make him see his own end before the dawn.

But things sometimes change. Shahrzad tells the king a story and keeps herself alive to see the dawn again, but fails to end Khalid’s life. Even more amazing, she makes it through the next night and the next by continuing the story, before Khalid himself guarantees her safety, but now she has a new mystery. She plans to find out why Khalid has killed so many of his wives, and she is determined to do it without falling in love with the murderous king, except, it might be too late.

Despite her best efforts Shahrzad has fallen in love with the young king who has killed so many before her and she sees that he is not the evil monster she thought him to be. There is something more to the story, and she plans to see this story to an end of any sort.

This story had me on edge. With every turn of the page I was afraid that Shahrzad would meet her end, that Khalid’s secrets would be his burden and only his. Of course, we know there is another book after this one, so obviously something happens to keep Shahrzad alive.

This story is a world of twist and turns, dark secrets and whispered rumors. Just when you think you know what is going on, you are taken down a different path and become completely lost in the story again. Just when you figure something out, you find out it maybe wasn’t exactly how things were going down.

There seems to be so many secrets and the one I became most afraid of in the story was the fact that Shahrzad had come, not to win the heart of Khalid as he thinks, but to kill him. The chemistry between the two was not instant. They didn’t not fall in love with each other at first sight. It was a slow process and neither one of them really knew what was happening until it was too late. But that is only part of the story in this book. That is only the thin top layer. There is so much more going on and love could be the one thing that saves the day, or destroys the world.

I usually don’t give a favorite quote or passage, but this passage hit me right in the heart and tore it to pieces and made me melt into a puddle of dreamy eyes and butterflies.

Favorite passage:

“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.

“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”

DESTROY ME! Favorite quote of any book ever! Okay, you have to add the context to it to get it, but I can not tell you how many times I re-read this bit of the book. It was something unexpected and amazing. I have never had a dialogue hit me so hard before. In that moment there is a power given to Shahrzad and I don’t think she even knows what power she holds in her hands with those words.

I would read this book again and again. Maybe I am a sucker for romance, but the story behind the love story is just as powerful. I don’t think there was a single thing I didn’t like about this book.

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends! Happy Monday. Hopefully it’s not too horrible for you all. If it is, let’s talk about something we all love! Books!

This week I am starting a new audio book and I am so excited!!

Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch

I loved the first book in this series so much, I just can’t wait to dive into the next book of the series. And the covers of this series are so beautiful!

The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

I was on a book buying ban for the month of June. I failed and bought this book. And I am now reading it because I have to know what happens next!

The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

I just finished the first book in this series and OMG! The review for the first book will be up on the blog tomorrow.

Sons of Beasts: Legend of Steeple Creek by Phillip Edwin

Because I have so many books going at once, I have been reading this on my breaks at work, so it has taken me a little longer to read this. I really need to sit down and get it finished because in all reality, I should have had it finished last week. And sad thing is I had this past weekend off and I didn’t even touch the book. It’s not a bad book, don’t get me wrong. I just…I was super lazy and played games and watched TV. I need to get my priorities straight!

I also have a few books that I have not finished but I am not actively reading. It’s starting to bug me to be honest. I need to get them all out of the way before picking up another book. So for the next few weeks it will be about finishing what I have going. Maybe…Dorothy Must Die series has another book to go, so that maybe the only exception.

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends! I didn’t have a “What Are You Reading?” post last week, because I am still reading all the same stuff…for the most part anyways. I have been having a serious problem with reading lately. I haven’t been happy with the books I have been picking up, so I pick up a new book. But I finally found some really great books…and I may have broken my month long book buying ban (oops) and purchased a few books I have been excited to read. Anyways, what am I reading at the moment?

Actively I am reading…

The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

This book is actually really really good. I have loved it so far. I didn’t think I would like it because of the hype around it. But I can’t get enough and I can’t read it fast enough. I knew I would need the next book in the series as soon as I finished it so I went ahead and bought it. (That’s just one of the books I broke my ban for.)

Dark Prince by Christine Feehan

While I have enjoyed this book for the most part, the main female character is getting on my very last nerve. “Yes I want to be with him.” “No, this is crazy. I don’t want to be with him.” “But I love him, I must be with him.” “This is ridiculous. I am an independent woman and I love my alone time, I can’t be with him.” “But he needs me, I have to be with him.” Dear god woman, make up your mind and stick to it! Seriously, I don’t know how much more of this book I can take. I may finish it, I may break my phone because I have gotten so mad at the book that I just throw my phone, which is what I am using to read this book. I just…I don’t know if I can make it through.

Sons of Beasts: Legend of Steeple Creek by Phillip Edwin

This book I read on my breaks at work. So far it’s interesting. There is a mystery, a creepy beast, and three brothers who have moved into this new strange town after their parents died. Yep, you got me interested.

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends. Happy Monday. I almost melted yesterday, but I made it. 🙂

So this week I realized that I have 6 books that I am reading. I went through a little reading slump and I just couldn’t find what I actually wanted to read. Nothing could keep my attention. Then a friend suggested a book and let me borrow a copy. Of course, I had to download the Nook app to read the book and this lead to another book!

Nook has this thing where you can read a free book every month. They release new chapters daily. This month is Dorthy Must Die by Danielle Paige.

Now, this book has been sitting on my shelf for a little while. I think I bought it around the time it was first released. It has just been sitting there, waiting for me to pick it up. I started reading it on my phone with the Nook app, because I thought it would be nice to read it on my phone and take the whole month to read it. Needless to say, I was hooked from the beginning and had to get the book off myself because Nook was not released enough chapters a day. I have heard a few negative reviews about this book and that is why it sat on my shelf for so long. I should have known better than to listen to those people.

The book that my friend suggested was Dark Prince by Christine Feehan

I am also hooked on this book and have been reading it on every break, in between commercial breaks, and even when my car broke down this week. (The car is fixed now.) I think I like it because it reminds me so much of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Which is also a little sad because this book was released after the Sookie Stackhouse novels, so this may be an issue of an author borrowing an idea. The female character in the book is telepathic. The male is a vampire…sound familiar? But it’s okay because I can love both books.

I am still listing to Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

And LOVING every minute of it! I’m telling you, you throw in a little romance and I am so down to read that book! I am sick I tell you. I have no love life, so I devour books where there are complicated love stories. And this book has a complicated love story.

I have made it half way through The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

I read the first half so fast and then I got bored with it. Not because the story got boring, it just wasn’t what I wanted to read at the time. So I am trying to read a little bit of it every day.

I have also read about half of Figment by Cameron Jace

Again, I just got bored with everything I was reading and needed to change things up. But I am still slowly reading this book. I still love the story, though I get a little aggravated in the whole thing. I mean, is she really insane or is she really helping save people from Wonderland??!!

Lastly is The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh.

I am going to be honest here. I have not made it past the first few chapters. I haven’t given the book much of a chance and I need to put more effort into it. After I finish a few on this list I will give it more time. Right now it is just sitting with a few chapters read. Don’t worry, I will remember what has happened so far.

Tell me, what are you reading right now? Do you think I am crazy for having so many books going at once??

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends. It’s Monday again. No matter how many times it happens I always find myself shocked that it’s Monday again. But it’s okay. I have things to look forward to this week. Maybe I will fill you in later. 🙂

At the end of last week I started a new audio book. I am not really liking it too much, but I used my one monthly credit on it, so I am stuck with it until the end…or until next month.

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

I actually found this book through a quiz on Epic Reads. It was some silly quiz that said they could guess my favorite book genre by me clicking a few pictures. They guessed high fantasy…which I have never had much luck with high fantasy, I always get a little bored. They recommended this series and I thought I would give it a try.

So far it has put me in the mind of The Shannara Chronicles on MTV. Yes, the show because I have yet to read those books. But so far it just has not peaked my interest. I will give it to the end of the book and see if I will continue the series. If you have any suggestions for audio books, feel free to leave me a recommendation.

I am currently reading 3 books.

The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

I feel bad that I haven’t read more of this. I think I have hit a bit of a reading slump and nothing is grabbing my attention.

Figment by Cameron Jace

I am still loving this book, but I am reading it on my Kindle so I try not to read it at night because of the whole “no electronics before bed” thing. I may have to ignore that rule for now.

The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

I just started reading this Saturday night and so far it is interesting. I am giving it until about page 100 for it to grab my attention. This book has been so hyped that I am trying not to get my hopes up too much.

That is all I have at the moment. I am hoping to get at least one of these books finished this week so I can move on to the books I am reading for reviews for another blog. In reality, I should be reading those first, but I was never one to follow the rules.

Tell me, what are you reading?

April 2016 Releases

Hello Friends! I promise, I am getting back on my game with my blog. I have been trying to move it to a .com but I am running into some problems along the way. It’s rather frustrating.

But this may be a few days late, but not too late that the books have been released yet, so let’s jump into this. April Book Releases!

April 5th

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead

This has been compared to The Selection and sadly, I actually enjoyed that series. I haven’t been a big fan of Richelle Mead. I tried to read her Vampire Academy series, but I got so bored with it. But I just recently read Soundless and I really enjoyed it, so I am looking forward to reading another book by Richelle Mead.

The Beast by J.R. Ward

This is the latest book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood novels. I am actually a little behind, but I am glad to see the series is still running. I might be able to catch up one day…

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima

To be honest…this is on my list just because I thought the cover was so amazing. Also, the author has really high reviews on her other series.

April 26th

Heir to the Sky by Amanda Sun

Again, the cover got my attention. The plot seems interesting as well. Sadly, I don’t know much about the author and her other works, but I will give it a go.

Soldier by Julie Kagawa

Seriously, I have read every one of Julie Kagawa’s books, except the last book in the Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten series. I need to get that book…But I am so excited for the next book in the Talon Saga. They have not been my favorite books, but I am rather enjoying the story and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

The Rose & The Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

Moment of truth, I haven’t read The Wrath and the Dawn yet. Eek! It’s on my bedside table to be read next, and now that the second book is coming out I am more determined to get to it. I have heard so many wonderful things about the first book and I didn’t want to have to wait a year to read the next, so I just didn’t read the first one yet. I know, sad logic.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

That cover! Also, it’s a stand alone and you don’t come by those often. That means the story wil be wrapped up with in the 352 pages of this book.

You know, I have noticed a trend in my release post…they are all YA books. For the most part anyways. I really do love YA but I seriously need to branch out to something other than YA. So if you know of any genres (within the fantasy world) let me know. I Love Stephen King and J.R. Ward and Gena Showalter, I just need to get more into that world so I can find out what good books are coming out on that side of the spectrum too!

What books are you looking forward to this month?
