Let’s Talk: Nightmare on Elm Street 2 Freddys Revenge

Image result for Nightmare on Elm street 2

I have been going through all the old horror movies and checking them out again, because well…I have not seen most of them since I was a kid.  So while I remember loving them and almost being terrified of them, I didn’t exactly remember them.

So here I am watching all these horror movies and I have seen quite a few at this point. Pumpkinhead, Hellraiser 1, 2, and 3, The Shinning…and A nightmare on Elm Street.

I have enjoyed watching these great classics and it’s almost like watching them for the first time.

And this is a huge but!

Freddy’s revenge was…..

Does anyone remember this movie? I think it should be wiped from our minds and thrown in the delete folder and the delete folder deleted. There were so many things wrong with this movie. Honestly, was it even a Freddy movie? It wouldn’t have been good if it had been a stand-alone movie and not part of a franchise.

Let’s look at this. Freddy could attack people in their dreams. But he is weak from the first movie where he basically had his a$$ handed to him. So…he attacks one guy who moves into Nancy’s old house. It could totally make sense that Freddy can only attack the people in the house where he was last defeated. I can go along with that.

Then it goes all wonky. Suddenly Freddy can possess Jesse and kill people in the real world instead of attacking them in his dreams. I have read the things that the idea is that Freddy is weak and this is how he gets stronger. But it doesn’t make sense. He is a dream demon basically. How can he be so weak he can’t attack people in their dreams, but he can possess someone, look like himself to them, and kill?

Also, the whole point of the first movie is that Freddy was attacking the kids of the adults who had a part in killing him. Jesse’s parents had nothing to do with it!

This movie was an embarrassment to the whole franchise. It completely throws out the whole concept of Freddy. The scary guy who attacks you in your dreams. It was ridiculous but I could still appreciate some of the special effects. People were really creative with special effects in the 80’s and I kind of miss it.

I need to get back to watching horror movies, but I have been a little distracted with things lately. There are some great shows going on at the moment too and I hope to touch on those soon this month.

So tell me, what is your favorite horror film? Old or new I want to know so I can watch them!

What did you think of Freddy’s Revenge?

Movie Review: Suicide Squad

Release Date: 8/5/2016
Cast: Will Smith | Ike Barinholtz | Margot Robbie | Jared Leto | Jai Courtney | Joel Kinnman | Jay Hernandez : Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje | Cara Delevigne

Okay, here is the secret behind…me. I don’t get into superhero movies. I feel like they have gotten so boring because it’s the same thing over and over again. Also, I never really connected with the superheros. I was always the strange girl that loved the bad guys. I mean…come on, they have way cooler costumes and tragic backgrounds. There just seems to be more to them. When you make a movie full of bad guys of course I am going to go see it! Even after all of the horrible reviews!

The acting in this movie was fantastic. I feel like every actor that crossed the screen did a wonderful job. I may have jumped on the Harley Quinn band wagon after this movie as well. Margot Robbie was such a believable Quinn. She was crazy, bad, and under it all, just another girl in love. I want to be her after watching this movie.

movies suicide squad margot robbie harley quinn

My favorite character was Deadshot (after Harley Quinn, obviously, because…girl power!) This was another character that was so great. Will Smith has never let us down with his acting…(except in that one movie he did with his son (After Earth) but that wasn’t his fault, that movie was just horrible) and he didn’t disappoint in this movie either.

I could go through the list of characters and tell you what I loved about them all and rave about how great they performed, but I will save you from the boring.

After this…

jared leto suicide squad joker

Jared Leto! Still no Heath Ledger Joker, but OMG so amazing! I was told that the Joker in the comics is actually abusive to Harley Quinn and pretty much uses her, but in Suicide Squad they have this crazy, psychotic love that…well, if I was a bad guy I would totally want their love story!

I realize that a lot of people dislike Suicide Squad, and I can understand what you don’t like. The story line was kind of all over the place, like they were given trouble, just to introduce the characters. The whole witch thing didn’t make much sense and I think I would have been okay with a movie just about the members of the Suicide Squad, without the lame storyline of them taking out this strange, old soul witch lady.

Would I watch the movie again? You bet I would! Even with the horrible story line, it was action packed and the backstories were fabulous! I would even consider spending more money and going to the theaters to see it again…if I wasn’t broke at the moment. Honestly, it wasn’t as bad as the critics say it was.

If you are looking for a interesting movie that will NOT put you to sleep, this movie will fit the bill. I had gone to work at 5 am the morning I saw the movie. This was after getting very little sleep the night before and no nap before seeing the movie. This usually means I will fall asleep in the theater if the movie is bad or not that great. This movie kept me awake and alert. I loved it.

Chit Chat: Wrong Cast

Hello Friends! Kind of a late post today because I have the day off and I’m a little lazy…or a lot lazy.

Anyways, it’s time for another little chit chat!

As any Stephen King fan would know, they have decided to do a Dark Tower movie. For those of you that don’t know what that is, it is a series that Stephen King wrote about a Gunslinger and his quest to find the Dark Tower. Don’t ask me too many details because they are all a little foggy right now. I need to read the entire series again and soon. It’s a great series, I know that much.

I also know that Roland, the main character, is a white man (the color of his skin is important for this post) who travels worlds looking for the Dark Tower and either running from or chasing after the Man in Black. I think later on in the series the Man in Black ends up being Randell Flag, which is the bad guy from The Stand. So, now that I have let that little spoiler out…though is it really a spoiler??

So, the other day I noticed that they have cast Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. I have not been following the casting, I just don’t follow castings to movies that often. I wait until it’s all cast and they have started showing previews for the movie. I was reading some of the comments about Matthew McConaughey being cast, to be honest I think he will make a great Man in Black.

In the comments I noticed someone say something about who they had cast as Roland, they didn’t name any names and they didn’t say what the problem was, they just said they wouldn’t even mention the issues with who they cast for Roland.

I looked it up, being the curious person I am and I actually got a little angry. They have cast Idris Elba as Roland Deschain. Is it because he is a black man that I am angry? For once, yes, yes it is.  But before you yell at me and call me racist let me explain why this angers me.

In the book Roland comes across a black lady in a wheelchair, Susannah. She is a loveThe Dark Tower V Art IX - Wolves of the Calla - Bernie Wrightson - "Riza": ly woman, until her other personality kicks in. This other personailty is extremely racist and calls Roland all kinds of names. She is ruthless in her racism and Roland basically lets her speak, without saying a word. There is also another character in this. Eddie, a white man who falls in love with Susannah and marries her.

Now, I am a little foggy on ALL the details, but I do know that Roland was

Eddie and Susannah Dean:

Susannah and Eddie

a white man that was hackled by a sick personality of a wheel chair bound black woman. I also remember her hackling Eddie, the man that she marries. Also, at some point
this personality of hers becomes and important aspect of the story as it is born into a child and becomes a new bad guy for the gang to chase down.

So my only problem with Idris Elba being cast is the fact that the storyline is going to completely change. Are they going to cast Susannah as a white woman, to keep the racism of the story intact? Or do they even plan to make it past the first book in this movie?

From what I have seen so far, this movie will not be as long as The Stand. It’s not a movie series. It’s going to be a regular length movie. So in the end all those people that have not read the books are going to be completely lost. And the fans of the series are going to be disappointed. I have always loved movies based on Stephen King novels. Because Stephen King still has some input in the movie and it never ventures too far from the book. At least, that is what I have seen so far. If you have seen different, please share with me which movies you have seen completely different. I would like to check it out and see for myself.

I have been so excited for this movie. I always get my hopes up every time they start talking about it. A few years ago they had talked about turning it into a TV series, which to be honest would have been the best route. There has been talk about movies before now as well. It never pans out. Now they are actually filming the movie and have a release date for sometime in 2017. I am trying to not get my hopes up, because it will either be canceled or it’s going to be extremely disappointing.

What are your thoughts on the movie?

Movie Review: The Conjuring 2

The Conjuring 2

Year Released: 2016
Directors Name: James Wan
Lead Actors: Vera Farmiga | Patrick Wilson | Madison Wolfe
Production Company: New Line Cinema | Atomic Monster | Evergreen Media Group
Genre: Horror | Mystery | Thriller

Storyline: In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to London, England, where single mother Peggy Hodgson believes that something evil is in her home. When Peggy’s youngest daughter starts showing signs of demonic possession, Ed and Lorraine attempt to help the besieged girl, only to find themselves targeted by the malicious spirits.

I can be very harsh in reviewing horror movies. I have seen so many and not many scare me anymore. I stopped looking for a movie that scared me and more of a horror movie that I enjoyed and felt I could watch again. I enjoyed the first Conjuring movie. I thought it was really good and I have seen it several times now.

The second one is going to be no different. I have actually found myself thinking of a movie and wanting to watch it again, only to realize the movie I am thinking about is The Conjuring 2 and I can’t really afford to go see that again at the moment.

As far as the storyline goes, it was well written. It kept me interested throughout the entire movie, trying to figure out what exactly was going on. At times it even had me believing it was about a hoax instead of a haunting. The storyline moves along fairly quick and I don’t recall finding myself bored at any moment in the movie.

There are a few jump scares that I thought were very well done. Of course, you can see them coming for the most part, but a few will still surprise you.

As far as scary goes, there is one character in this movie that I thought might actually fallow me into my dreams. And I promise it wasn’t the nun that you see in the previews.
Although, the nun character is rather sinister and creepy, we all have seen her in the commercials. Everyone knows she or rather, it, will be in the movie. The character that really got me is called the crooked man, and while the animation of him is 80’s style CGI the concept was spine tingling.

The actors were fantastic as always. I love Vera Farmiga in everything she has done and she is the perfect actress for Lorraine Warren. Madison Wolfe, who plays Janet Hodgson is such an amazing actress. While I have not seen her in other movies, I do look forward to seeing her career flourish.the conjuring 2

Final Thoughts: I do not feel that I wasted my money to see this movie. I thought it was fantastic, suspenseful, and an overall great horror movie. The last few minutes of the movie was so intense that I think I forgot how to breathe. It had me on the edge of my seat. That is what I look for in a movie. A story that will put me on the edge of my seat and capture my attention so completely, I forget I am only watching a movie.

Have you seen The Conjuring 2 yet?

Movie Review: 10 Cloverfield Lane

10 Cloverfield Lane Banner

Year Released: 2016
Directors Name: Dan Trachtenberg
Producer: J.J. Abrams
Lead Actors: John Goodman | Mary Elizabeth Winstead | John Gallagher Jr.
Production Company: Paramount Pictures | Bad Robot | Spectrum Effects
Genre: Drama | Horror | Mystery

Storyline (From IMBd): Soon after leaving her fiancé Michelle is involved in a car accident. She awakens to find herself sharing an underground bunker with Howard and Emmett. Has she been saved from an apocalyptical event as Howard & Emmett tell her or are there other motives for her being held against her will?

I loved this movie. There was so much going on. First of all, the acting is fantastic. John Goodman was fantastic as always. I recognized Mary Winstead from Scott Pilgram v. The World and I think she did just as an amazing job in this movie as she did in her previous film. And of course John Gallagher Jr. played in the new movie Hush. I have not seen him in anything else, but what I have seen from him so far, I am a fan.

Michelle has run away from her life, for whatever reason. We have no idea where she is going or why she is leaving her fiancé. All we know is that she is upset and leaving town. Before she gets to where she is going, she finds herself in an accident. When she awakens she is chained to a wall, in what looks like a basement.

She soon finds out from Howard, the man who owns the bunker, that there has been a chemical attack and he claims he has saved her. He also tells her that the air is not safe so she cannot leave the bunker. Of course, like any normal person, Michelle questions it, even though there is another man, Emmett, trapped in the bunker with her. All she can do is try to trust this stranger that he is telling the truth, but he acts strange and she questions his true motives.

I thought this movie was very inventive and fresh. The female protagonist is not some helpless woman that settles in and lets things happen to her. She fights the entire time, wanting to know the truth, wanting to be free. I loved that she was so head strong and did not, for even one moment, take what Howard said as truth. My only problem was how she so quickly trusted Emmett.

You can see from early on that Howard is a little sick in the head. We learn about his daughter and suddenly we see that he is trying to replace the daughter that he lost in a divorce. Now the question is, did he run Michelle off the road on purpose because she reminded him of her daughter, or was it an accident like he said.

No one seems to mention or even notice that Howard disappears from time to time. My thoughts around this time were if he was disappearing above ground, or if he had a secret room he hid in. I just found it a little odd because he was so paranoid that something would happen between Michelle and Emmett, I don’ t see why he would have left them alone.

But it didn’t seem to matter, seeing as at the end he kills Emmett. This is towards the end of the movie and I was sure I had figured out the movie at this point. I was sure that there were no attacks and this guy was just crazy and trying to replace his daughter and Emmett was in on it, to make the story seem real. But then he kills Emmett. I was obviously confused as to what in the world was going on at this point.

Michelle finally gets out of the bunker and escapes with her homemade hazmat suit. She quickly discovers that the air is safe and at first glance all seems right with the world. At least until the alien space ship appears!

**Spoilers Over**

This movie had me guessing through the entire thing. I didn’t know what was real and what was fake. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I was thrown for a loop. The writers did a fantastic job with this storyline. It’s not often that I am so confused through the entire movie. The ending was something that could be a proper ending, but also leaving the movie open for something more. I do hope that there is more to this story to come. The movie was thrilling, intense, and pretty crazy. There wasn’t a dull moment with Howard’s explosive temper and Michelle’s constant questioning.

Have you seen 10 Cloverfield Lane? What did you think about it?

Movie Talk: It

I have loved horror movies since I was a toddler. It’s true, as my parents. I have watched just about all the scary movies that everyone claims is just too scary. The only one that actually bothered me was Exorcist and…I still haven’t watched that movie again.

I have watched It several times and I have loved it every time. Unlike a huge chunk of the worlds population, clowns do not freak me out at all. And to be perfectly honest with you, Pennywise wasn’t even that scary.

Now as most of you have heard, I am sure, It is getting a remake. Like most of the world, I don’t like remakes, but for some reason I am excited about this one. Maybe it’s because of my love for Stephen King and everything he does. Maybe because Pennywise is one of my favorite horror movie villains. Who knows, but I am ready for it.

The other day they annouced a recast of Pennywise.

At first it was going to be this guy…

Will Poutler. He was Gally in “The Maze Runner”. He also played Kenny in “We’re The Millers.” He has a baby face…which with the clown make up I am sure can work. Evidently his scheduling didn’t allow for him to continue with the Pennywise roll and they had to recast.

Now it is Bill Skarsgard. One of the actors of Hemlock Grove, also the brother of Alexander Skarsgard (Eric on True Blood).

I am all for this! But I read an article this morning that you can read at DailyDot.com where they say that Bill is just too hot to play Pennywise.

Rosewood what morris chestnut say what

Tim Curry, the original Pennywise, was a very nice looking man.

So your argument is invalid.

angry fairuza balk screaming goth the craft

Okay, so that gif may be a little overkill…maybe.

Also, let me point out that Bill Skarsgard is a creepy looking guy. Seriously, he can play an killer clown easily.

90s retro classic horror movie clown

And my last point to this…Make up…This actor is going to be in full clown makeup. How are we okay with baby face Will, but mad about creepy looking Bill? Also, Will…Bill…am I the only one that finds that funny?

I am excited for the casting and the remake. I do hope that everything pans out well and we actually get to see this movie soon. I don’t know about Skarsgard’s acting skills as I have never seen Hemlock Grove or anything else he has played in, but I think he has the look.  I am not expecting the remake to be better than the original…because you can’t beat the genius that is Tim Curry, but I am hopeful for a fantastic movie.

Movie Review: Zoombies

Year Released: 2016
Directors Name: Glenn Miller
Production Company: Asylum
Lead Actors: Ione Butler/Andrew Asper/LaLa Nestor/Kim Bielsen
Genre: Action/Horror/Sci-Fi

Movie Storyline(From IMBd): When a strange virus quickly spreads through a safari park and turns all the zoo animals undead, those left in the park must stop the creatures before they escape and zombify the whole city.

Zoombies was just recently released on Netflix. One night while watching the Talking Dead, Chris Hardwick had mentioned something about the movie and I was intrugied. I couldn’t find it when it was mentioned, but just came across it on Netflix. I even convinced my parents to watch it with me.

If you know anything about me, you know that I love horror movies…even the cheap ones that everyone hates. Which seems to be the case with this movie as well. There is a lot of hate geared towards it because in the sense of horror…its ‘horror’ible. The special effects are not that great, the acting is just… sad, and there is nothing believable about it.

The best part is where the little girl kicks the crap out of a few crazy Koalas.

Now if you look at this in a comedy sense, it was genius. The first part of the hilarity begins with the bus of college students and their bad attitudes about their internships. The second would be when everyone goes looking for the doctor and opens the door when he is obviously telling them to leave the door closed.

Again, the best part is when the little girl kicks the crap out of the rabid Koalas.

The whole movie is predictable, hilarious, and if you really think about infected zoo animals out to kill all humans, it can be a little scary. Just think about it.

Over all though, I think this would be a great movie to sit around with friends and watch. You know, you and your friends are the kind of people that like to sit around and poke fun at all the things wrong with a movie. Seriously, I would suggest this for a movie night with my friends. It’s okay to sit and watch a horrible horror movie with friends, it keeps things light and fun.

What I loved: Do I really need to cover this again? The little girl killing zombie Koalas. Also, it gave me a good laugh.

What I hated: There was one character that I could not stand and I wanted her to be the first to die, but she survived way to long! The ending sucked as well. **Spoiler** Only 4 people make it out, but in no way did those 4 people destroy all the zombie animals. So there is a zoo full of rabid animals that really no one has the power to control. In my opinion the movie should have ended with a “A year later” prompt and all humans are dead and the animals have taken over the planet. It’s the only way to end a movie like this.

Another thing that I hated about this movie is that the monkeys that started spreading the virus only had to get close to the other animals to spread it. They didn’t have to bite them…just breath the same air. Which means the virus should have spread through the zoo much quicker. Just because they blow up the bird aviary that means the virus can’t spread? What about the animals that come up to the fence?

Movie Review: Austenland

Year Released: 2013
Production Company: Fickle Fish Films/Moxie Pictures
Directors Name: Jerusha Hess
Lead Actors: Keri Russell/JJ Field/ Jennifer Coolidge/Bret McKenzie
Genre: Comedy/Romance

Movie Storyline(From IMBd):

Austenland is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with Mr. Darcy-as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice-is ruining her love life; no real man can compare. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.

I am not going to lie, I started watching this movie because it was about a 30-something single woman. Which is much like myself. It is also about a woman who is obsessed with Jane Austen…which is so far from me.

As far as the story goes, it was adorable and very enjoyable. It left me with a huge smile on my face because who doesn’t like a happy ending?

My favorite part of the story would be the idea behind Austenland. It’s suck a fun idea to have a place to celebrate your favorite author or books. But it can be a little unhealthy to be so obsessed with something that you completely lose yourself in the story.

What bothers me about the story is that Austenland is where people go to be scripted into a love story. And poor Jane Hayes is tricked into one of these love stories without even knowing it. She actually falls for one of the guys in this mess. It was actually a little frustrating to watch, knowing that she was being tricked. It was obvious, between the two men, who was the actor and who was genuine.

All the actors did a fantastic job. I love Keri Russell and have never been disappointed by any of her characters. The only other actors I knew in this movie were Jane Seymour, who played Mrs. Wattlesbrook, the owner of Austen land. And Jennifer Coolidge who played one of the guest. Jennifer Coolidge did an outstanding job at making me laugh, as usual, but I often wonder if she has ever played a serious role…

The romance in the movie was sweet and innocent. It was believable. It made me want to go to Austenland and hope that I come across the one guy who isn’t acting.

There isn’t much left to say other than it was an enjoyable movie and I already find myself wanting to watch it again.

Movie Review: Hush

Year Released: 2016
Directors Name: Mike Flanagan
Writers: Mike Flanagan/Kate Siegel
Production Company: Intrepid Pictures/Blumhouse Productions
Lead Actors: Kate Siegel/John Gallagher Jr./Michael Trucco/Samantha Sloyan/Emma Graves
Genre: Horror/Thriller

Movie Blurb(From IMBd): A reclusive author who went deaf as a teenager finds herself hunted by a deranged masked killer inside her isolated home, sending her into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse in order to survive the night.

I have been hearing a lot about this movie. Everyone seems to be watching it. Then I came across a tweet from Stephen King and he was giving it high praises as well. So of course, because of King’s tweet, I had to watch the movie and I am glad that I did! I didn’t know what I would walking into, with the main character being deaf. I thought it would be a retro silent film, to put you in the POV of Maddie. Luckily, that didn’t happen.

Maddie is an author and she lives out in the woods, alone. You see little glimpses of what it is like for her, from the loud flashing smoke detector, to the silence of cooking dinner. Her only help in the world is feeling vibrations or seeing what is around her, which is where the problem comes in.

A killer figures he has found easy prey and he begins his break down of this deaf woman who is all alone.

I don’t usually like movies like this, but it was so well done. I like movies that are going to freak me out, which most of the time are the supernatural horror movies. But I am a lover of horror in any form and will give anything a chance. This is a simplistic thriller, just a killer and his chosen victim.

By the end of the movie I was on the edge of my seat, hoping that Maddie would make it out of this alive, but then afraid it was going to turn out to be one of those horror movies where the bad guy wins.

Overall it was a fantastic movie. The actors were fantastic and the thrill was a great ride. It had me wondering what I would do in the situation and how different things would have gone had Maddie had the advantage of hearing.

There were a few times I caught myself yelling at the screen for dumb things that all horror movie characters do, but it wouldn’t be a good movie without a few dumb mistakes.

Plot/Story: At first I didn’t think I was going to like this movie. I hated the way Timmy’s parents spoke to him and I didn’t really see the humor in it. Also, I really didn’t like the whole thing about the bullies throwing a gun in the kids face. Maybe my sense of humor is broken or something, but also not funny.

As the story progressed I started to enjoy it a little more. I was able to learn to hate the little bullies and it didn’t bother me when Timmy’s pet zombie took care of the little brats.

This movie kind of reminded me of Warm Bodies, and I wonder if that movie/book was inspired by this movie at all. In this movie the Zombie finds himself being tamed by this family and possibly falling in love with the mother?

I thought the plot was unique and gave a little humor to the horror of a zombie apocalypse. Also, I love that it was set in the 50’s because the style was amazing. There were so many gorgeous cars in the movie…I am a sucker for older model cars.

Characters: Timmy was likable from the beginning, but the rest of them I kind of hated. Well, other than Fido, the zombie. I believe I could have watched Timmy and his pet zombie just hanging out and killing random annoying neighbors. Which is basically what this movie is.

What I liked most: I really loved the relationship between Fido and the mother. I thought it was hilarious. Though, the relationship between Mr. Theopolis and Tammy was just a tad bit disturbing.

What I hated: The beginning just made me rage a little. But in the end it was a necessary evil.

Overall: I enjoyed this movie. I would sit down and watch it again with friends. It made me laugh and gave me something to ponder over. Would I own a zombie pet should the world succumb to a zombie apocalypse and then domesticate zombies somehow? Think on that one for a minute. I think I would be a lot like Timmy, I would befriend my zombie pet and go on some weird protest about how zombies are still people.
