Goblin King, Goblin King

Goblin King

Where ever you may be…

I know, I am a few days late with this, but I am secretly still waiting for someone to tell me this was an elaborate hoax and Bowie is actually okay and laughing his butt off at the distress he caused everyone.

Though, I don’t think Mr. Bowie would actually take pleasure in causing his fans so much stress.

I have had a love for David Bowie since I was a little girl. Labyrinth has always (and will be forever) been my favorite movie. Besides the movie, I loved Bowie because he was so different from everyone else, and he didn’t care. He let his freak flag fly and he just didn’t care. He was the first person in my weird little life that made it okay to be weird. So, yes the news of his passing was a little devastating.

It was more devastating because it’s Bowie!! The Goblin King. The Goblin King is immortal. He isn’t supposed to pass away.

I actually had to go to work after finding out and I spent the whole day moping around and pouting. No one at work understood why I was so distraught. Which actually made me so mad.

As a way to end this I would like to share the great Goblin King in one of my favorite songs ever.

Did you love David Bowie? Were you devastated too?

The Must Watch Halloween Movies

Hello Nerds!

I realize today is Wednesday and I should be posting a short story. But…I have been lazy and my story isn’t ready yet. So, I thought I would do a fun little list because it is the month of Halloween (seriously they should change it from October to Halloween) and it’s my favorite time of the year!

I thought I would share with you a list of must watch movies for the month of Halloween!

Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Duh! How could you not watch this movie?? It’s amazing and spooky, but not too spooky for younger kids. Let’s have a family movie night and watch this!

Hocus Pocus. Another no brainer. Another classic that you can not go the entire month of Halloween without seeing at least once. Of course, if you are like me you will see it at least 5 times…

I love this movie so much! It warms my heart and Devon Sawa (Casper) was probably my first movie star crush. I still love the moment at the end when Casper gets to dance with Kat. Another favorite part of mine is when Casper asks Kat “Can I keep you?” Ugh! my heart! Seriously going to get that tattooed on me at some point in my life.

Yeah, I went there. I love all of the Halloweentown movies. They are so adorable and full of all the things I love about Halloween.

Yes…I love Tim Burton and all of his movie feed my love for the strange and dark. Corpse Bride is one of my favorites…actually all of them are my favorites. In all honesty, I will use any excuse to watch this movie.

I watched this one just yesterday and what a cute little movie. I loved it. And I think it is the perfect Halloween movie.

Come on….like you didn’t know this one was going to be here. It’s the greatest family ever!

Okay, okay. This is not a Halloween must. It is a LIFE MUST! What better time to watch a strange movie about a goblin king stealing babies than Halloween.

Now, I know you are wondering why I don’t have the classics on this list. Like Halloween, Trick ‘r Treat, Ginger Snaps, I Know What you Did Last Summer, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Donnie Darko. Maybe my list is a little kid friendly…or maybe I am just a child at heart. Maybe, all those other movies just bore the crap out of me! Except Ginger Snaps, that is actually a pretty good (although cheesy) movie. And there are other movies that I could have named. But these are the movies that I watch all month long…honestly it’s an all year long thing, but I usually watch them all more than once in October.

Tell me, what are your must watch movies for Halloween?

Blogging in Comfort

I have shared with you what my work area looks like. Last week…or a couple of weeks ago (my time is all messed up) the wonderful Hilary from Cutie Cameras had an idea to share with the world what we wear while writing our blogs.

I was supposed to share this Monday, but this week has been a little crazy and I couldn’t get a picture that I liked. I still don’t have a picture that I really like, but it’s better than nothing. So…

Blog OutfitTa Da! Not going to lie, this is usually what I put on the moment I get home from work. Yoga pants, and a comfy T-Shirt. This t-shirt was a Christmas gift from my mom. It’s a Labyrinth t-shirt (my favorite movie!)

Close up of the shirt. It’s one of my favorite shirts, but it makes me sad too. No one ever knows what it’s from! I’m pretty sure the shirt was bought from ShirtPunch.

The yoga pants are from Target and seriously the most comfortable yoga pants of all the land.

Sadly, my hair stays in a bun for most of the time. I work retial. It gets hot. And usually when I am writing post, I have either just gotten home from work, or just gotten out of bed.

There you go, a peak into my private life. If you want to join in the fun, check out Cutie Cameras and link up your post before the 22nd of this month. A few people have already joined in!

Is It Over?

Sad face? Now that the holidays are over maybe, just maybe, I can get back to the things I love the most. Which just so happens to be the things I was doing during the holidays anyways.

My Christmas was fantastic and I don’t feel like it’s over because of the massive amounts of gift cards I got. Now, I know that some people hate gift cards, but I love them. I love them so much! Especially when it is gift cards to Barnes & Noble or Amazon. I even got a gift card to my favorite craft store.

What more could this happy girl ask for? I mean, a boyfriend for Christmas would have been nice, but let’s not push it.

Edgar and I stayed together through the holidays. But it didn’t stop my ankle from doubling is size Tuesday and Wednesday. It calmed down Thursday. But after work yesterday it was back to being double it’s size. I am so sick of the pain and swelling. I am going back to the doctor after the holidays to find out what is actually going on with this stupid ankle.

On a positive note, work is slowing down. I am no longer working nights which I will actually miss. And it looks like I won’t be working 8 hour shifts anymore. While I will miss that money on my check, I won’t miss the pain in my ankle. This also means I may not be able to continue physical therapy, but they are not doing much other than telling me to continue what I have been doing. Frustration much?

Gift rundown. I got so many awesome things this year aside from the gift cards (that will be used to feed my book addiction.) I got a new paper cutter…which I will need for the business I am starting up. I got an airbrush gun for cakes. I seriously can not wait to take my cake decorating to the next level with this thing. I got some knives which was inevitable. My knife collection grows every year and I love it! I got an owl necklace and an owl keyring. I also got Grease on Blu-ray. I love that movie.

One of my favorite gifts though was a Labyrinth t-shirt from Shirt Punch.

It’s so fantastic!

How where your holidays? What was your favorite gift? And are you sad that it’s all over?

Monday I will start a little rundown of 2014. It may run into next year, but I just want to do a few post about how awesome this year has been for me. Starting with all the awesome books I have read.

Until we meet again

When Did That Happen?

My internet service has been crazy the past few days.  I wasn’t able to get online yesterday after 5pm.  I was so upset.  It finally came back up around 3 this morning and I was afraid to even try to write a post in fear that it would get lost.

While my internet was out my family and I watched my brothers favorite movie, The Boondock Saints.  I was willing to watch it just because it had Norman Reedus in it.  He is a lovely actor and I might have a slight crush on him.  I loved the movie and we ended up watching the second movie as well.  Through the entire movie I kept asking my brother questions about the characters and the story and he would just tell me he didn’t remember.  I’m still trying to figure out how true that was, but I was scolding him for claiming it was his favorite movie and he couldn’t answer questions about the movie.

My favorite movie is Labyrinth, which if you don’t know is a movie from 1986 staring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.  It’s also a Jim Henson movie.  It’s great and fantastical and its about a goblin king that steals a girls baby brother to get her attention.  If you haven’t seen you, you need to go see it now.

I could answer any question you could have about this movie.  And if you ask me a question that I don’t know I will look it up and make sure I know it next time some one asks.

After going through all this thought, yes I did think about all this while I was fussing at my brother for not knowing his favorite movie, I started wondering when Labyrinth became my favorite movie.

That one is actually really simple.  It has been my favorite movie since the first moment I saw it.  I was a year old when the movie came out.  I don’t know when my parents let me see it, but I was watching horror movies at 3, so I am sure I had already seen Labyrinth by then as well.  It has and always will be my favorite movie.  Though, Breakfast Club  is a close second.

I started wondering about all my favorite things.  Like, Johnny Depp is my favorite actor.  At what point did he become my favorite actor?  The obvious answer would be the moment I saw him on screen as Edward Scissorhands (third favorite movie), but I was 5 when that movie came out in 1990.  Did I know who Johnny Depp was or did I just think of him as Edward?  Or was it his movie Cry Baby when he became my favorite actor?  Both movies were released in 1990, but I bet it was Cry Baby that made me love Johnny Depp.  It’s such a cheesy movie but I can’t get enough of it and hearing Johnny Depp sing!

When I was younger I loved Jim Henson (still do!) and I am sure it was because of movies like Dark Crystal (another favorite) that came out three years before I was born.  And Labyrinth.  But there was also the show Fraggle Rock that I loved so much and thought was just as creepy as it was amazing.

At some point I switched from Jim Henson to Tim Burton. Or maybe that is just because Jim Henson has passed away and Tim Burton is still alive and kicking.  Or maybe because Tim Burton speaks to the Gothic side of me.  I love all things dark and Tim Burton seems to love all things dark as well.

I just feel like these favorites should have been remembered like every other milestone in our lives.  I should be able to tell you the moment I fell in love with Johnny Depp and David Bowie.  I want to remember the moment that my brain sparked to life with the realization that Labyrinth would always play a huge part in my life and would be the first movie I thought of when I was bored.

I can tell you I was around 14 when I fell in love with the Gothic world and started dressing in all black.  Though, I can’t tell you when I started collecting skulls.  I may have fallen in love with vampires because of Interview with a Vampire, actually that is probably when that happened.

I just want to know these things.  I know why these things are my favorites, but when did they become my favorites.  Have a always been a twisted soul that loved horror movies?  Probably.  Like I said, I was 3 when I would run straight to the horror section of Blockbuster (R.I.P. Blockbuster).

We are missing parts of ourselves and we don’t even know it.  Why are our favorites our favorites.  Is it because we love them or do we connect them with something and that something became misplaced but the love for the favorite stayed?  Did that make any sense?

What are your favorites?  And do you know when they became your favorites?
