First Line: Michael was not himself.

Blurb from Goodreads: From the New York Times bestselling author of the Maze Runner series comes The Rule of Thoughts, the exciting sequel to The Eye of Minds. Fans of the Divergent series by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games will love the new Mortality Doctrine series.

Michael completed the Path. What he found at the end turned everything he’d ever known about his life—and the world—completely upside down.

He barely survived. But it was the only way VirtNet Security knew to find the cyber-terrorist Kaine—and to make the Sleep safe for gamers once again. And, the truth Michael discovered about Kaine is more complex than they anticipated, and more terrifying than even the worst of their fears.

Kaine is a tangent, a computer program that has become sentient. And Michael’s completing the Path was the first stage in turning Kaine’s master plan, the Mortality Doctrine, into a reality.

The Mortality Doctrine will populate Earth entirely with human bodies harboring tangent minds. Any gamer who sinks into the VirtNet risks coming out with a tangent intelligence in control of their body.

And the takeover has already begun.

Review

This book…this whole series so far has awakened my mind to so many possibilities. Actually, it has just kicked my overactive imagination into overdrive. This whole book had me on the edge of my seat. Micheal has a new body, he knows he is a tangent, was never human, some human created him. Can you imagine waking up in a body you don’t recogonize and then being told that you were never human, you were just a program that has been downloaded into someone’s hijacked mind?

Then he goes off to find his friends and finds himself in even more trouble. Now the cops are out to get him, Kaine is out for him, and he can’t trust anyone but his two friends. And let’s not mention all the tangents now riding around in human bodies.

What has happened to the world?!

I will tell you, I have been listening to this, as I do a book a month. On my way home, through the last chapter, I thought I was going to have to pull over on the side of the road. The last chapter is such a whirlwind of “OMG!” The end of this book had me wishing it was March and I had another audible credit, because I can’t afford another audio book right now. I was so ready to tear into the next book. I want to know what happens and how this is all going to go down. Will Michael get to keep the body he is in or will he go back to being a tangent? Will he finally fall to Kaine’s demands? Will he fall in love with Sarah? Come on, if you have read any of this series you are hoping it happens! Or is it just me?

What Are You Reading?

WhatAreYouREadingendinterview

Hello friends and happy Monday! Shockingly I got the day off work. This NEVER happens on a Monday due to it being truck day. But sadly, I don’t get another day off until Saturday so my day off is spent getting things ready for my blog this week. Of course, that isn’t a bad thing because this is a hobby that I love to do.

Let’s get this party started!

This week I am reading three books and listening to one. I am trying to get last minute books in to up my count for this month. I know, it’s not a race and as long as we are reading it doesn’t matter how many books we read…but when you have already bought 11 books in a month you kind of have to pick up the speed as to counter balance the TBR list…right?

Changes by Jim Butcher

6585201

I am on page 183/438. I need to pick up the pace, though I am reading it quicker than usual. This so far is my favorite book in the Dresden files series. I feel like we are seeing a new side to Dresden that I knew was there, but have yet to see. It has furthered my crush on Dresden.

Shadows, Maps, and Other Ancient Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

24894078

This is the 4th book in the Dowser series and I just can’t stop! I am in love with this series and I want more. Though, I debated last night if I wanted to start this one. Jade is made at Desmond and I really wanted something to happen between those two. The chemistry between them is amazing and ugh…I need Jade to fall madly in love with McGrowly and never look back. Sadly, I have already looked at a few reviews for this one because of the way the 3rd book ended and it looks like Desmond doesn’t even stand a chance with Jade and there is a new love interest and I am not okay with it, unless it was the vampire! Come on Meghan! I need McGrowly or the vampire to win Jades heart!

Sorry, the wound it still fresh from the 3rd book…

The Reflections of Queen Snow White by David Meredith

18780192

I was contacted by the author of this novel and he asked if I would review it. It sounded really interesting so I said I would give it a go. Normally, I would not have picked up this book at all. Mainly because the cover. I just don’t like it and I can’t really explain why. But I do love a fairy tale story and this one is obviously about Snow White and..Charming is dead! I started this one last night and I am still not so sure I am going to like it. I will continue reading, obviously, because I hold hope for all books. They are all a work of art and at least one person has poured their heart into the story. So far though…not to thrilled with it.

Lastly, what I am listening to.

The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

I am in the last 30 minutes of this book. It has been so good and this book has been one joy ride of emotions. I am telling you, this series may be better than the Maze Runner series. I can’t wait to finish this, though I have a feeling I know part of how it will end.

Week GoalThis week I want to finish all the books above. Really bump up that book count. I am already 4 books ahead of schedule. I am making a little cushion for when Christmas gets here I guess.

I would like to start reading Serafina and the Black Cloak by Rober Beatty

23507745

And The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

That is all I am going to challenge myself to this week. It’s going to be a busy week.

I have two questions for you today.

  1. What are you reading?
  2. Do you start on a book as soon as you finish one or do you give yourself a break between books?

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Late post today. I sort of forgot that I was working so late today and didn’t prepare my blog ahead of time like I usually do. Silly me. It’s all good though, readers never stop reading!

I just started reading Changes by Jim Butcher. It is the 12th book in the Dresden Files

6585201

I am in love with this series. I have been slowly making my way through the series to kind of drag it out a little bit.

I am also reading Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge.

22059099

This is the second book in the Dowser series. Another series that I am currently obsessed with. I have been reading this while at work, so it’s been slow going, but I am almost to the end and plan on finishing this tonight.

I am listening to The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

This is the third and possibly final book in the Mortality Doctrine series. Again, in love! I just love the whole virtual reality aspect of it.

Week Goal

Of course, my goal is to finish Changes as well as Trinkets. I would like to start on another Gena Showalter novel. I have only read her YA novels and I want to look into her more adult novels. If they are as good as her YA novels I may have another favorite author to add to my list. I have The Darkest Night on my night stand right now, waiting to be read first.

476543

This is the first book of the Lords of the Underworld series. My best friend turned me to these books. She said they were a lot like The Black Dagger Brotherhood books that I love.

I also have Serafina and the Black Cloak sitting on my immediate TBR pile.

23507745

I went to a book signing and bought this book. Got it signed and even got a picture with the author. I have been putting it off for a while now. I figured it was time to actually read it.

That is all that is on my TBR for this week. As we all know my week goals never happen and sometimes I am craving a book and I have to put the other books on hold. But at least I have a plan!

What are you reading?

What are You Reading?

What are you reading

Happy Monday friends! Yeah, I know, it’s never that great of a day, but the great thing about it is that we have new books to read!

This week I am reading:

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

23174274

I will hopefully finish this book this week. It is my plan anyways. I am only 100 pages away. I know, I am reading super slow, but I was reading a book for my author interview and had to put this one on the back burner for a little bit while I finished that one.

I am also reading Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

22059099

This is the second book in the Dowser series that I read last month. I have not been able to stop thinking about it. Is that strange?

I am listening to:

The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

This is the third and final book in the Mortality Doctrine series. I am loving this whole series and hope that James Dashner wraps it up nicely. And actually, I am hoping this is the last in the series. It was only published last year, so Dashner could suprise us all with another book in the series. I will let you know if it sounds final once I reach the end of it.

Week Goal

Once I finish Glass Sword I plan on starting Firstlife by Gena Showalter. Seriously, I am dying to read this book. I have been looking for a book that will keep me up at night reading. The kind of book that grips my soul and won’t let go. Gena Showalter’s The White Rabbit Chronicles did that to me, so I have high hopes for this one as well.

25785357

I also hope to get to Cogling by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek this week. If I read Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody Magic as fast as I did the first in the series, I am sure to make it to Cogling as well this week.

25375990

What are you reading this week?

What Are You Reading?

Better with a Book

Hello friends! It’s Monday! Let’s talk about what we are reading!

I finally was able to get to Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

23174274

I am so into this book right now! I am about 200 pages in and OMG! It’s so good!

I am also reading The 6th Horseman by Anderson Atlas

28416185

This so far has been fantastic. Anderson Atlas also happens to be the author I will be interviewing this month. I should probably get on top of this author interview thing and do them a month ahead…but I am not that organized yet. So far, this has been one of the best books I have read for the Reading Bud so far. I was going to get through it yesterday and finish, but other things got in the way. When you only have a few days off a week, a lot of things have to happen on those days off.

Week Goal

My goal for this week is to finish the two books above and move on to Firstlife by Gena Showalter and Cogling by Jordan Elizabeth. I am hoping to also start the last book in James Dashner’s Mortality Doctrine series. It will be in audio form, so it won’t be adding to much to my packed plate.

What are you reading right now?

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

Genre: YA/SciFi/Dystopian/Fiction

Pages: 308

Publisher: Delacorte Books For Young Readers

First Line: Michael Spoke against the wind, to a girl named Tanya

Blurb from Goodreads: An all-new, edge-of-your seat adventure from James Dashner, the author of the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series,The Eye of Minds is the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.
Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he’s holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific—the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer’s motives are a mystery.

The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker.
And they’ve been watching Michael. They want him on their team.
But the risk is enormous. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid. There are back alleys and corners in the system human eyes have never seen and predators he can’t even fathom—and there’s the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

Review:

I went into this hoping for something as good as the first book in the Maze Runner series. I was very surprised to find that I enjoyed this book. Throughout the book you can tell there is something that Michael is completely missing but his mind is so focused on keep his friends safe as they track down Kaine, he doesn’t see what is right in front of him.

Don’t worry; I won’t ruin the surprise for you.

I loved the relationship between Michael and his friends, Sarah, and Bryson. Even though it was never said, it was obvious that these three friends were closer than most. It was obvious that they knew everything about each other. I love friendships like that and I so wish I had one like that myself.

The only complaint I do have about the story itself is that there are moments where Dashner seems to drag out a scene and since I was listening to this book, I would zone out and stop listening. Of course this resulted in me having to rewind the book so I could find out what I had just missed.

I have another complaint but it is more about the narrator than the story itself. It was narrated by Erick Davies, and while his voice is soothing, I felt like it was just too boring for the book that I was trying to listen to. I just didn’t care for the narrator. It looks like I need to get used to his voice though, because he narrates the second and probably the third books too. It’s not so bad that I want to stop listening; it just gets a little aggravating at times.

What Are You Reading?

Paradise is a Library

Hello Friends!

Sorry for the late post today. Had a doctors appointment this morning and worked until midnight last night. I didn’t plan far enough ahead. Though, when it comes to Monday’s post, you can’t really plan ahead. Especially if you have finally found your stride and are reading a lot more!

Last week I finished two books! I’m so proud of myself. This week I plan on reading two more, but I will get to that in a second. First, let’s see what I am reading right now.

I am still listening to The Rule of Thoughts by James Dashner.

17700320

This book is so good! I listen on the way to work and on the way home from work. I end up sitting in my car for a few minutes, not wanting to turn the book off and go inside. I feel like if I were reading this instead of listening, I would have finished it within a day.

I am also still reading Armada by Ernest Cline

16278318

Now, I added this in the mix last week, but in reality I didn’t start reading until later. I thought I had read the first chapter, but when I finally got back to it I realized that I had only read the first page. I was really tired the night I started reading it. My plan is to get a good chunk of this book read today. I am currently only 100 pages into it. But just like Ready Player One it has hooked me from the start. Such an interesting concept. So far it has put me in mind of Ender’s Game which is referenced in the book.

THIS WEEKS READING GOAL:

My goal is to first finish Armada. Then I will be moving on to a few other books.

The first Being Risuko by David Kudler

25700544

This is only 230 pages and a middle grade book. I got it from Netgalley. Which I am so excited to finally be using. I have received a few books from the site to review. This is just next on the list.

I would also like to re-read Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

22328546

This is just so that I can start the next book in the series Glass Sword. I am so excited to have the next book!

Hopefully I can at least get started on both of these books this week, after finishing Armada.

What are you reading??

What Are You Reading?

Matilda Quote

**Late Post today because I had some kind of issue and set the schedule for posting wrong…**

I have a confession to make. I have not been reading much! WAIT! Don’t throw your stones yet! I have been dealing with a lot of stress this month and…well, I sleep more than anything. I know, sorry excuse, but it happens!

What that being said, what I am reading isn’t much different from what I was reading the last “What are you Reading” post. Yep…same ol’ stuff.

I’m almost done with The Eye of Minds by James Dashner.

16279856

It’s such a good book. I’m listening to it, so I only listen when I am driving to work. I have like 20 minutes left of the book.I know I could have sat down for a few minutes and finished it already, but I have a ritual…I listen when I drive to work. It helps me get through the work day. So I try to drag out the books I am listening to for as long as possible. Especially seeing as I only listen to one book a month.

You’re Never Weird on the Internet(Almost) by Felicia Day…

23705512

This book kind of took a back seat when I started reading another book. I was trying to power through as many books as possible and I just killed myself or something and haven’t been able to finish anything. Ugh! And this book is so good! I just need to sit down one day and finish it!

Lastly, I am reading Turn Coat by Jim Butcher.

3475161

Again, this is a really good book! I don’t know what my problem has been this past month, but I plan on finishing all of these books this week and moving on to my next pile of books that I want to read.

Since I am reading the same stuff, I thought I might add a little extra this week and let you know what is next on my TBR list!

First is Armada by Ernest Cline.

16278318

I have been so excited for this book and I have been taking my sweet time getting to it.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

22328546

The next book in the series comes out February 9th. I wanted to have it re-read before the book came out, but I may be a little late finishing it to read the next book. Don’t worry, I plan to finish both in the month of February.

Monsterland by Michael Phillip Cash.

26835271

This was suggested to me on Goodreads and I got it free on Netgalley, so I want to read this this month and put up a review!

Beautiful by Sarah Dawson Powell

28095485

Sarah is my author of the month and I need to read her book so I can get to interview her. Yep, I am a little behind in all my stuff for this blog! I sometimes hate myself, but I am getting back on track!

That is what is to come and what is…what are you reading? What is your TBR for February? Let me know in the comments.

Movie Review: The Maze Runner

4dea0d690917be07f358c3824a179a6b

I had the great and awesome privilege of getting a free ticket to a pre-screening of The Maze Runner last Monday. Of course I planned my entire day around it and was two hours early to the showing. I was too excited. I read the book and I couldn’t wait to see how the movie held up to the book.

I have often been disappointed in movie based on a book.  I am a huge book nerd and I pick apart every movie compared to the book.  I can’t help it, it’s just the way I am programmed.

Synopsis:

A boy wakes up in a cage and is suddenly thrown into a place surrounded by large walls and inhabited by a group of boys.  Doors open during the day that lead into a maze, but no one is allowed there.  No one remembers who or where they were, all that is left of their memory is their name. Once Thomas comes to the Glade, things start to change and some of the boys blame Thomas.  All Thomas wants is to find the way out.

Personal Opinion:

Even knowing what was going to happen, I was on the edge of my seat at times.  I squealed when it looked like something bad was going to happen and I sighed in relief when things were…okay. There were moments I even forgot to breathe!

I thought the movie was well worth my 2 hour wait.  As far has how it stood up to the book, it stayed pretty close.  There were a few things that were changed around, but considering the parts it was kind of necessary.

Over all I loved the movie.  I would pay to go see it when it comes out Friday.  Even if you haven’t read the book it’s a great movie to see. Not to mention the adorable Dylan O’Brien is in it!  He is just as adorable in this movie as he is in Teen Wolf.

So, go see the movie Friday! You won’t regret it!
