What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends. Happy Monday. I almost melted yesterday, but I made it. 🙂

So this week I realized that I have 6 books that I am reading. I went through a little reading slump and I just couldn’t find what I actually wanted to read. Nothing could keep my attention. Then a friend suggested a book and let me borrow a copy. Of course, I had to download the Nook app to read the book and this lead to another book!

Nook has this thing where you can read a free book every month. They release new chapters daily. This month is Dorthy Must Die by Danielle Paige.

18053060

Now, this book has been sitting on my shelf for a little while. I think I bought it around the time it was first released. It has just been sitting there, waiting for me to pick it up. I started reading it on my phone with the Nook app, because I thought it would be nice to read it on my phone and take the whole month to read it. Needless to say, I was hooked from the beginning and had to get the book off myself because Nook was not released enough chapters a day. I have heard a few negative reviews about this book and that is why it sat on my shelf for so long. I should have known better than to listen to those people.

The book that my friend suggested was Dark Prince by Christine Feehan

28866

I am also hooked on this book and have been reading it on every break, in between commercial breaks, and even when my car broke down this week. (The car is fixed now.) I think I like it because it reminds me so much of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Which is also a little sad because this book was released after the Sookie Stackhouse novels, so this may be an issue of an author borrowing an idea. The female character in the book is telepathic. The male is a vampire…sound familiar? But it’s okay because I can love both books.

I am still listing to Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

17399160

And LOVING every minute of it! I’m telling you, you throw in a little romance and I am so down to read that book! I am sick I tell you. I have no love life, so I devour books where there are complicated love stories. And this book has a complicated love story.

I have made it half way through The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

I read the first half so fast and then I got bored with it. Not because the story got boring, it just wasn’t what I wanted to read at the time. So I am trying to read a little bit of it every day.

I have also read about half of Figment by Cameron Jace

15698596

Again, I just got bored with everything I was reading and needed to change things up. But I am still slowly reading this book. I still love the story, though I get a little aggravated in the whole thing. I mean, is she really insane or is she really helping save people from Wonderland??!!

Lastly is The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh.

18798983

I am going to be honest here. I have not made it past the first few chapters. I haven’t given the book much of a chance and I need to put more effort into it. After I finish a few on this list I will give it more time. Right now it is just sitting with a few chapters read. Don’t worry, I will remember what has happened so far.

Tell me, what are you reading right now? Do you think I am crazy for having so many books going at once??

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends. It’s Monday again. No matter how many times it happens I always find myself shocked that it’s Monday again. But it’s okay. I have things to look forward to this week. Maybe I will fill you in later. 🙂

At the end of last week I started a new audio book. I am not really liking it too much, but I used my one monthly credit on it, so I am stuck with it until the end…or until next month.

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

17399160

I actually found this book through a quiz on Epic Reads. It was some silly quiz that said they could guess my favorite book genre by me clicking a few pictures. They guessed high fantasy…which I have never had much luck with high fantasy, I always get a little bored. They recommended this series and I thought I would give it a try.

So far it has put me in the mind of The Shannara Chronicles on MTV. Yes, the show because I have yet to read those books. But so far it just has not peaked my interest. I will give it to the end of the book and see if I will continue the series. If you have any suggestions for audio books, feel free to leave me a recommendation.

I am currently reading 3 books.

The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

I feel bad that I haven’t read more of this. I think I have hit a bit of a reading slump and nothing is grabbing my attention.

Figment by Cameron Jace

15698596

I am still loving this book, but I am reading it on my Kindle so I try not to read it at night because of the whole “no electronics before bed” thing. I may have to ignore that rule for now.

The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

18798983

I just started reading this Saturday night and so far it is interesting. I am giving it until about page 100 for it to grab my attention. This book has been so hyped that I am trying not to get my hopes up too much.

That is all I have at the moment. I am hoping to get at least one of these books finished this week so I can move on to the books I am reading for reviews for another blog. In reality, I should be reading those first, but I was never one to follow the rules.

Hello Friends! Happy Monday. I hope it’s not too terrible for you all. Especially since most of you have the day off.

This week I am still listening to Finders Keepers by Stephen King.

22453035

I am about 2 hours from finishing this book and I can’t wait to get it finished.

I am currently reading the Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. I’m just on the second book The Seeing Stone.

519048

Now, the first book I read in an hour. Sure it could have been faster if I had been focusing, but my focus is a little shot at the moment. I love that these books are so short and quick to read. And they are adorable and fun. I love anything to do with fairies, so I knew I had to finally read this series. I bought the collection in paperback but now that I know I am going to love them I want to get them in hardback as well.

I am also reading The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

I have actually set this book on the back burner. I have enjoyed reading it, but other things have grabbed my attention so I have not been reading this book as much. I might have peeked through the story a little bit and was a little disappointed in some things that I saw, but I am going to read this book and get through it. If I don’t care for it, I will move on and not bother with the rest of the series. Which, may happen. I love Gena Showlater’s YA novels, so I was hoping to love her adult novels too. I haven’t lost hope yet though.

Lastly, I am reading Figment by Cameron Jace. The second book in the Insanity series.

15698596

I loved the first book and read it back in October, so it has been a while. But I remember most of it, may have forgotten a few details,  but for the most part I am up to speed. The second book, I just started reading it yesterday, is extremely interesting from the start. I hope to push through this one and the rest of the series by the end of next month, which would be fantastic! I also love anything to do with Alice and Wonderland…You put Wonderland on something and I will read it, buy it, collect it, cherish it, stalk it…yep, mild obsession.

What are you reading

Hello Friends! Happy Monday…or not. 🙂

This week is going to be crazy for me so I probably won’t be reading as much as I usually do, but I still have a few books sitting on my bedside table at the moment.

So let’s get to it.

I am still listening to Finders Keepers by Stephen King

22453035

This book is just so disturbing and some mornings on my way to work I have skipped listening to it just because the voice actor for the book can get annoying. Just some characters that he reads. He is a lovely voice actor, but some mornings I just can’t take it.

I am reading a middle grade book. Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver.

10425811

So far it has been a very interesting story and the cover is just so gorgeous!

I’m also reading The Darkest Night by Gena Sowalter

476543

I was afraid I wouldn’t like Gena Showalter’s adult novels. I love her YA books. My fear was short lived as soon as I read the first chapter. I am, so far, in love with this book!

Aerisia: Land Beyond the Sunset by Sarah Ashwood

21928224

This book has been so fantastic so far. Some days I just don’t have enough time to read enough of this book to satisfy my curiosity. As soon as I have some time I am probably going to sit down and do nothing but finish this book.

That is all I have this week. I know, I am reading too many books at once, but I am keeping the stories separate and they are all so different. I would have been done with at least one if I wasn’t working such strange hours.

Hello Friends! Happy Monday…I guess. 😛 I had to weekend off and now I see why Monday’s suck. Also, truck day is never fun. It’s even worse when you have to go in a 6 in the morning.

Enough complaining…at least I have a job that pays the bills, right?

At the moment I am still listening to Finders Keepers by Stephen King

22453035

Let me tell you…I don’t know why I am so amazed at the crazy mind of Stephen King. Most of the stories I have read by him so far have all had a supernatural element to it. This one is just crazy people with a need to kill for whatever reason. Makes my skin crawl.

I am also reading Minutes Before Sunset by Shannon A. Thompson

25170253

I kept saying how i just wasn’t interested in this story and didn’t think I would continue on with the series. I have officially changed my mind. This book is so good! I will probably finish it today and possibly buy the next book ASAP becuase it now has my undivided attention.

WeekTBR

Since I am so close to finishing one book and finished a book Sunday, I feel it’s safe to have a TBR for this week.

Exodia by Debra Chapoton

25498587

The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

And…

Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty

23507745

Who knows how far I will get on this list, but I have to start Exodia this week at least. I will probably start The Darkest Night tonight.

Book Review: Firstlife

Firstlife by Gena Showalter

Rating5 Nerd Girl RatingPlus Mustache

Author:  Gena Showalter
Release Date: February 23, 2016
Series: Everlife
Genre: YA fiction/Fantasy/Dystopia
Pages: 480
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Buy it : Amazon

First Line: I’ve been locked inside the Prynne Asulum-where happiness comes to die-for three hundred and seventy-eight days.

Blurb from Goodreads:
Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t home to the boy she’s falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

Cover: This cover is so amazing. I love the hourglass as the thought of time running out. And then the two worlds Myriad and Troika. It’s so simple but it is everything you need to know what the story is going to be about. I love a cover that tells the story itself.

Review The beginning was a little slow going, but being the first novel in a series, there is world building to be done. So, we learn a lot about Tenly and the world that she lives in. We dive into the torture that she has undergone and are prepared for what is to come.

When things start to pick up, I felt like I was Ten, and torn between the two afterlife realms. I mean, Myriad sounds great at first, offering Ten the world. Troika is just offering fairness. But to be honest, I think Ten knew from the beginning what realm she would choose.

Then we learn of Many Ends. The place of the unsigned. A place that no one is certain if it exist or just another scare tactic.

The ending now, was amazing. I couldn’t stop thinking about this book while I was reading, but the ending was almost unbearable to break away from. There was so much happening and so much heartbreak in such a short amount of time. I may have actually shed a tear or two..for real…I cried.

The only real complaint I have is that I should have waited a year to read this book, because now I have to wait a year to find out what happens next.

My favorite character was probably Archer. He was just so chill through the whole book, but it’s part of the Troika mentality. They value life and they don’t take revenge. Archer was the true definition of Troika.

One thing that I loved about this book is that there was no love triangle between Tenly, Archer, and Killian. Ten never struggled between loving two boys, she struggled with choosing her future and that is something that I can completely relate to.

I have always struggled with what I wanted to do in my life, always being pulled several different ways and I guess, that is how I can relate to Ten. She has two choices set in front of her and she fears picking the wrong one. While I feel like her heart has always called her to Troika, her mind and her family have always pushed her to Myriad. And being a teenager, maybe she fears that picking Troika would just be part of her teenage rebellion faze and she will regret it as she gets older. But she feels like choosing Myriad isn’t her choice, but the choice of her family.

I have seen several people complain about Ten not making a decision, and I agree that it can get annoying, but having the time to sit back and really think about the book, we have all had this moment in our own lives. We have all struggled over a decision, we have struggled over the battle of heart and mind. Ten’s situation does not allow for her to properly weigh her choices, she isn’t give the freedom to debate over her choices, which is why we have this book and Ten’s struggle to choose what she wants in her future.

Hello friends and happy Monday! Shockingly I got the day off work. This NEVER happens on a Monday due to it being truck day. But sadly, I don’t get another day off until Saturday so my day off is spent getting things ready for my blog this week. Of course, that isn’t a bad thing because this is a hobby that I love to do.

Let’s get this party started!

This week I am reading three books and listening to one. I am trying to get last minute books in to up my count for this month. I know, it’s not a race and as long as we are reading it doesn’t matter how many books we read…but when you have already bought 11 books in a month you kind of have to pick up the speed as to counter balance the TBR list…right?

Changes by Jim Butcher

6585201

I am on page 183/438. I need to pick up the pace, though I am reading it quicker than usual. This so far is my favorite book in the Dresden files series. I feel like we are seeing a new side to Dresden that I knew was there, but have yet to see. It has furthered my crush on Dresden.

Shadows, Maps, and Other Ancient Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

24894078

This is the 4th book in the Dowser series and I just can’t stop! I am in love with this series and I want more. Though, I debated last night if I wanted to start this one. Jade is made at Desmond and I really wanted something to happen between those two. The chemistry between them is amazing and ugh…I need Jade to fall madly in love with McGrowly and never look back. Sadly, I have already looked at a few reviews for this one because of the way the 3rd book ended and it looks like Desmond doesn’t even stand a chance with Jade and there is a new love interest and I am not okay with it, unless it was the vampire! Come on Meghan! I need McGrowly or the vampire to win Jades heart!

Sorry, the wound it still fresh from the 3rd book…

The Reflections of Queen Snow White by David Meredith

18780192

I was contacted by the author of this novel and he asked if I would review it. It sounded really interesting so I said I would give it a go. Normally, I would not have picked up this book at all. Mainly because the cover. I just don’t like it and I can’t really explain why. But I do love a fairy tale story and this one is obviously about Snow White and..Charming is dead! I started this one last night and I am still not so sure I am going to like it. I will continue reading, obviously, because I hold hope for all books. They are all a work of art and at least one person has poured their heart into the story. So far though…not to thrilled with it.

Lastly, what I am listening to.

The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

I am in the last 30 minutes of this book. It has been so good and this book has been one joy ride of emotions. I am telling you, this series may be better than the Maze Runner series. I can’t wait to finish this, though I have a feeling I know part of how it will end.

Week GoalThis week I want to finish all the books above. Really bump up that book count. I am already 4 books ahead of schedule. I am making a little cushion for when Christmas gets here I guess.

I would like to start reading Serafina and the Black Cloak by Rober Beatty

23507745

And The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

476543

That is all I am going to challenge myself to this week. It’s going to be a busy week.

I have two questions for you today.

  1. What are you reading?
  2. Do you start on a book as soon as you finish one or do you give yourself a break between books?

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Late post today. I sort of forgot that I was working so late today and didn’t prepare my blog ahead of time like I usually do. Silly me. It’s all good though, readers never stop reading!

I just started reading Changes by Jim Butcher. It is the 12th book in the Dresden Files

6585201

I am in love with this series. I have been slowly making my way through the series to kind of drag it out a little bit.

I am also reading Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge.

22059099

This is the second book in the Dowser series. Another series that I am currently obsessed with. I have been reading this while at work, so it’s been slow going, but I am almost to the end and plan on finishing this tonight.

I am listening to The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

This is the third and possibly final book in the Mortality Doctrine series. Again, in love! I just love the whole virtual reality aspect of it.

Week Goal

Of course, my goal is to finish Changes as well as Trinkets. I would like to start on another Gena Showalter novel. I have only read her YA novels and I want to look into her more adult novels. If they are as good as her YA novels I may have another favorite author to add to my list. I have The Darkest Night on my night stand right now, waiting to be read first.

476543

This is the first book of the Lords of the Underworld series. My best friend turned me to these books. She said they were a lot like The Black Dagger Brotherhood books that I love.

I also have Serafina and the Black Cloak sitting on my immediate TBR pile.

23507745

I went to a book signing and bought this book. Got it signed and even got a picture with the author. I have been putting it off for a while now. I figured it was time to actually read it.

That is all that is on my TBR for this week. As we all know my week goals never happen and sometimes I am craving a book and I have to put the other books on hold. But at least I have a plan!

What are you reading?

What are You Reading?

What are you reading

Happy Monday friends! Yeah, I know, it’s never that great of a day, but the great thing about it is that we have new books to read!

This week I am reading:

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

23174274

I will hopefully finish this book this week. It is my plan anyways. I am only 100 pages away. I know, I am reading super slow, but I was reading a book for my author interview and had to put this one on the back burner for a little bit while I finished that one.

I am also reading Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

22059099

This is the second book in the Dowser series that I read last month. I have not been able to stop thinking about it. Is that strange?

I am listening to:

The Game of Lives by James Dashner

23257464

This is the third and final book in the Mortality Doctrine series. I am loving this whole series and hope that James Dashner wraps it up nicely. And actually, I am hoping this is the last in the series. It was only published last year, so Dashner could suprise us all with another book in the series. I will let you know if it sounds final once I reach the end of it.

Week Goal

Once I finish Glass Sword I plan on starting Firstlife by Gena Showalter. Seriously, I am dying to read this book. I have been looking for a book that will keep me up at night reading. The kind of book that grips my soul and won’t let go. Gena Showalter’s The White Rabbit Chronicles did that to me, so I have high hopes for this one as well.

25785357

I also hope to get to Cogling by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek this week. If I read Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody Magic as fast as I did the first in the series, I am sure to make it to Cogling as well this week.

25375990

What are you reading this week?

What Are You Reading?

Better with a Book

Hello friends! It’s Monday! Let’s talk about what we are reading!

I finally was able to get to Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

23174274

I am so into this book right now! I am about 200 pages in and OMG! It’s so good!

I am also reading The 6th Horseman by Anderson Atlas

28416185

This so far has been fantastic. Anderson Atlas also happens to be the author I will be interviewing this month. I should probably get on top of this author interview thing and do them a month ahead…but I am not that organized yet. So far, this has been one of the best books I have read for the Reading Bud so far. I was going to get through it yesterday and finish, but other things got in the way. When you only have a few days off a week, a lot of things have to happen on those days off.

Week Goal

My goal for this week is to finish the two books above and move on to Firstlife by Gena Showalter and Cogling by Jordan Elizabeth. I am hoping to also start the last book in James Dashner’s Mortality Doctrine series. It will be in audio form, so it won’t be adding to much to my packed plate.

What are you reading right now?
