What Are You Reading?

What are you reading

Hello Friends!

As I am trying to get back into the swing of things I have been re-evaluating the post that I really enjoyed. “What are you Reading?” is one of my favorite post. I love sharing with others what I am reading and I love even more when other share with me what they are reading. I don’t have a lot of real life friends that love books as much as I do. So I have to rely on you wonderful internet folks that I love so much!

Let me tell you what I am currently reading!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I am listening to this book, but it’s not the first time I have read it. I read this a few years ago. I was enamored by the cover. And the title. I have always been fascinated by stories, shows, and movies that revolved around a circus. Then you put that circus into the night and I am in heaven.

I am loving The Night Circus as much this time around as I did the first time. It is just so full of whimsy and mystery. The visuals are so beautiful and enchanting. If you haven’t read this one yet, I highly suggest it. It is becoming my favorite book. I just want to cuddle with it!

Ensnared by A.G. Howard

I am having trouble finishing this book. There has been a love triangle through the entire series, but it is getting annoying in this last book and I just want to get on with the story. I will finish it this week, I know that much, but I have not enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the first book.

Ghost Story by Jim Butcher

I am finally moving on with the Dresden Files. But I am finding this book hard to read…I think it’s just because Harry is dead! I don’t like it at all and I just want to get through it so I can move on to the next book.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I almost didn’t want to read this book because of the author. I read her book Shiver and I didn’t like it much at all. I broke down and borrowed this book from the library and I think I might like it. I could change my mind once I get a little more into the book, but at the moment I am glad I picked it up.

So tell me, what are you reading?

Dresden Goes on the Red Carpet

Hello friends!

This is going to be a fun little post to kind go along with the feel of Sundays. We just want to lounge around and have fun…dream up new things.

The other day I was contacted by a representative of TommyJohn, a mens underwear product line. I was asked if I wanted to participate in a little fun imagination game. My task is to take one of my favorite male characters and pretend I am their stylist for the red carpet. Of course, this brings two of my favorite things together, my love for books and my love for writing (AKA imagination!). So I said I would play!

I picked Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Just so you have a little insight on what Dresden looks like…he is all over the covers for the books. He wears a long leather trench coat, t-shirts, and jeans. I just don’t see Dresden in anything dressy like he would need to wear for the red carpet, which is why I choose him.

First of all, Dresden will start out with a few Tommy John products…because you know…its because of them I have the idea to do this.

Some comfy no-adjustment-needed underwear and a stay-tucked-in undershirt. We don’t want Mr. Dresden getting caught readjusting things…

Now, lets get on to the suit!

It’s going to be hard enough to get Harry into anything fancy to be honest. It’s just not his style. I think he would say that too. He would fuss and fight the whole way through, so I wanted to keep it simple.

He will wear a simple dress shirt. It will be a dark blue, because Harry will want to stay away from anything too light. He will want to be in all black, but we will get Murphy to convince him to add a little color. It will be impossible to get him into anything white. The undershirt was the only exception.

The pants will be simple. Just black slacks. They all look the same, so I don’t feel the need to add a picture. Plus I want to limit my chances of getting in trouble for using images I found on google. (*Snicker*)

Here is where the real trouble comes in. Most suits have a jacket, and most people on the red carpet do not walk around in a leather trench coat. It will be tougher to convince Harry to leave his trench coat behind then it will be to get him to wear anything other than black. So, we will compromise with him…

He will choose black, which at this point is the only color his stylist would let him choose. He will also request to take it home to spell it so that it works just like his leather trench coat, “enchanted” to take magical hits if something goes down where ever he may be. Let’s face it, if Dresden is walking on the red carpet, chances are something bad is going to happen, why else would he put himself through the torture of wearing a suit.

At least he gets to go home with new underclothes, right?

Honestly, we would try to put Dresden in some shiny dress shoes. Come back to reality, stylist team, Dresden has sacrificed enough. His comment will be something along the lines of how he needs comfortable shoes to run in when sh*t hits the fan.

He can probably get away with some boots like these…

It may not look great together, who knows, maybe none of this works. But when you are working with a stubborn wizard, you just have to let some things go. It’s not like too many people will be taking pictures of him anyways.

I would like to thank the people at Tommy John for contacting me to play along in this game. It was fun trying to dress up a wizard who wanted nothing to do with putting on a suit.

Side Note: I was not paid to do this in any way. I just thought it would be fun and I will always give credit to those who provide me ideas.

Happy Monday Nerds!

Have you heard the news about what is going on in SC? We are flooding. Yep, that’s where I live. Lucky for me I live in a tab bit safer place than others and the rain has not washed me away. Though, it did try to wash away my roof. Oy.

I have finally got back on my reading streak. Yes, I read three books last week alone. THREE BOOKS! They were part of a series and I got the first one free from Book Bub. The books were called Blood and Snow by Rashelle Workman. Not going to lie, I started reading them for two reasons. 1. The cover is really pretty! 2. Who doesn’t love a fairy tale retelling? While I am not still reading it, I wanted to share it with you. If you click the picture below you can get it free on Amazon as well. The first book anyways. If you read it, let me know what you think. **I was not asked by the author to advertise this book, I just really really liked it**

Now, on to what I AM reading at the moment. I have worked it down to three books and two of them are new this week.

I am still working on Small Favor by Jim Butcher. I don’t know why this book is dragging me down so bad. I have loved all the Dresden File novels but this one…I just can’t get into it I guess. I’m still going to read it, but I’m going at it slowly.

I started reading Desert Hunt by Anna Lowe. I was supposed to feature Anna Lowe as my author of the month last month. But…I had a hard month and I am still trying to get my bearings. Hopefully I can finish this book this week and beg Anna to still let me have an interview with her. So far though, the book is intriguing.

I also started reading the second book of the Selecting called The Elite, by Kiera Cass. I know I said I didn’t like the first one, but I got hooked about half way through it. So for this month I am listening to this book on audible.

You got to admit, that cover is gorgeous! And can I please fight for the love an attention of a prince?

There you go, what I am reading this week. Honestly, I hope to finish Desert Hunt and Small Favor this week so I can move on to a few books that have been sitting on my bedside table. I also have a stack on my floor and three shelves of a bookshelf… Oh dear, I have too many books.

Oh! One more thing before you go. I started a book club on Facebook (I might be moving it over to goodreads). We are only in the first stages of deciding what book to read for next month. If anyone is interested in joining, let me know. Hopefully, I can get a big group of readers and have an awesome online book club.

So, what are you reading?

What are You Reading?

Happy Monday Nerds!

I know I have skipped this post the past few weeks. I have been trying to get myself back on track and out of this funk. I am slowly getting there. Part of getting out of my funk was getting a few books finished so I could move on to better books.

It’s shocking, I am only reading two books at the moment!

First is Jim Butcher’s Small Favor. I am hoping to finish it this week.

The second is a book I got for free from BookBud called Blood and Snow. It’s book 1-4. The books are really short and the reviews are not very nice, but so far I have loved it. It helped me get out of my reading slump.

I actually downloaded it because the cover was so pretty. And I love a good story based on fairy tales. I will probably finish this book the second I have a couple of hours on my hands. It’s a quick read and I am enjoying it.

So, what are you reading?

What Are You Reading?

Reading Corner

Hello Nerds,

So…I still have not picked up my reading speed. I realize that I have a ton of books to read, but I seem to be in a reading slump. I am falling behind in my reading challenge. I am only 8 books ahead of schedule now.

Moving on…

I am still reading Small Favor by Jim Butcher

The Secret Hour by Scott Westerfeld

and Sortilege by C.M. Cox
Honestly, this one has lost my interest so I need to hurry through it so I can get a review of it done and move on.

A new one that I am reading is The Selection Kiera Cass
I am listening to this one and I am not so sure I will continue the series when I finish it. The covers are beautiful, but the story…It just feels so…Hunger Games with out the killing. You take a bunch of lower class girls, dress them up, and parade them around the Prince so that one girl can be his bride. I also realized that it takes three books to get to the final girl…It just seems like this story can be told in one book, but I will read through the rest of it before I judge it too harshly.

What Are You Reading

What Are You Reading2Hello Nerds!!

I skipped this last week because of the whole birthday thing, but we are back to our regularly scheduled everything this week.

I am actually only reading three books this week! Shocker!

First is Small Favors by Jim Butcher

This time I am focusing on this book. I have let it slide into the background way too often.

Rogue by Julie Kagawa

I only have about 2 more hours left in this book. It will be the last Julie Kagawa novel I have to pick from for my monthly audio book. I don’t know what I will listen to next. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Sortilege by C.M Cox

This one took a back seat to Red Queen. I kept getting details confused between the two novels because they both had something going on with a kingdom, and Red Queen was too good to put down. Now I have to finish this for a book review.

That is all I am reading this week. I am shocked myself about that. I have a few books that I am dying to read now, but I am going back to the TBR jar to see what will come after Small Favors. It’s only fair that I get back to the TBR jar. I need to sit aside some more time to read though.

Book Tag: Creatures of the Night

Book Tag

Hello Nerds!

I have a fun book tag for you today! I found it over on YouTube and you can see the original HERE. I might be a little addicted to the BookTube world…is it too late for me to join in the fun?

Anyways, I have a list of creatures of the night and I have to name my favorite book that features these creatures. So, here it goes!

  1. Vampire: Now…you know I love me some vampires. I might be a tad obsessed. So, it was hard to figure out what my favorite book was that featured vampires. And I chose…
42899The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. This series is amazing and I love it! And the guys are all vampires…obviously.
  2. Werewolf: I had to think about this one for a second. I haven’t read a lot of books with werewolves…at lest not ones that I liked. But there I remembered!140082
In the third book of the Sookie Stackhouse series, Alcide is introduced. Wonderful, beautiful, hunky Alcide. Now that is the kind of werewolf I could learn to love!
  3. Zombie: This one was kind of easy. I just read this series and the 4th novel of the series will be released in September of this year!11300302The zombies in this book are a little different from the ones we have seen so far, but I love it. The story is so captivating and amazing and…Zombies!
  4. Ghost: This one was even harder than the werewolf one! I could only think of one book I have read and I didn’t like it too much so I didn’t want to use it. Lucky for me, after reviewing a few books that I have read in the past (meaning I went through my list on goodreads) I finally found one!91476Grave Peril by Jim Butcher is the 3rd installment of the Dresden Files series. In this one Harry Dresden actually battles a few ghost. Woot!
  5. Witch/Warlock/Spellcaster: This one I had many to choose from. I could have picked Dresden Files again. Or I could have picked another book that falls in a different catagory, but I wanted each category to have a different book. So I went with one of the most obvious answers to this one…3“You’re a Wizard Harry.” How could I not include Harry Potter in all of this wonderful creatures of the night book tag? I just couldn’t resist.
  6. Fairy/Fae: This one was hard because I am just as obsessed with fairies as I am with vampires. Over the years I have read SO MANY books about fairies and I just couldn’t decide which one to pick. So I went with the one that I had just recently read.20958632I am still reeling from this book. It was so good and amazing and I want to read it again!
  7. Demon: This is the other book I could have picked for Wizard, or vampire, or fairy, or werewolf…But I had to pick it for Demon because I just love a few demons in this book series!30259Kim Harrison is one of my favorite authors and I love this series so much! There are several demons in this series. My favorites are Al and Newt. They are crazy demons and you grow to really love them as the series progresses. I suddenly have the urge to read this series again…
  8. Angel: I have not read a lot of stories that I like with Angels in them. But I found one that I could agree with…at least the first book in the series.6339664I was in love with Patch, but I wasn’t in love with the series. I didn’t finish the series. I loved the first book, but it got boring in the third. I just traded them in to get new books…
  9. Alien: YES! Now this one I can get behind because…aliens. And I just read the first two books of this series a few months ago and it is still fresh on my mind!16101128Love this book so much and Evan Walker…I don’t care if he is an alien!
  10. Superpowered Humans: This one was another easy one.10576365This was such a good book. I can not wait to finish the series. But the kids in this book have strange powers and…you should read the book!

Okay, that is all I got…all I have to do. Some of these were a little tough, but I got down to it. I got it done. And I love this entire list!

YOUR TURN! I tag everyone that reads this! It’s fun, try it!

What Are You Reading?

What Are You Reading

Hello Nerds!

Can I call you nerds? I’m going with it. If you get offended you must not understand how awesome it is to be a nerd… I have been called a nerd for most of my life and it suits me.

Moving on! What am I reading this week? A lot of the same from last week really.

I am back to The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher and currently reading Small Favors

I haven’t been reading the Dresden Files books because I have been reading so much of everything else. But, I missed Mr. Dresden and I had to go back to him. I forgot how much I love him.

I am slowly making my way through Forging Divinity by Andrew Rowe. It has been a little slow but I am finally getting to the meat of the book and kind of like it.

I am still reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. It’s so good!

For TRB I am reading The Watchtower by Darke Conteur. I don’t have much to say about it right now as I haven’t read much at all. But I am hoping to get through it this week. It’s a short novel, only 90 pages long, so I should be able to power through it pretty quick.

And lastly, I started a new audio book this week. It’s another book by Julie Kagawa, Talon. So far I like the story, but the person reading the book has such a bland and boring voice. I’m starting to wonder if I would be better off reading this book instead of listening to it.

Tell me, what are you reading this week?

Book Review: Storm Front by Jim Butcher

Storm Front is the first book in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.  It follows Harry Dresden, a wizard who openly shares what he is.  He is one of the few wizards that are open to the public, while the rest hide away.  He runs his own business of finding things that people have lost and he also works with the local police department when Lieutenant Karrin Murphy request his advice.  Karrin is in charge of the Special Investigations department, meaning she gets everything that can not be explained by common science and most always involves magic of some sort.

As Harry is waiting for a client he gets a request from Murphy to help with a case.  The case involves two lovers who have had their hearts burst from their chest.  The investigation leads Harry Dresden on a wild adventure where he runs into several different creatures.  He faces a vampire who is not the pretty vampires we are used to today.  He is also propositioned by the city’s mob boss, encounters and defeats a demon, tricks a fairy, fights off giant scorpions, and brings down the bad guy.  If that wasn’t impressive enough he also had to hide from his warden, Morgan, who has been sent to watch him for the White Council.

Every one thinks that Harry is the killer and the only help he receives is from a snippy talking skull named Bob, and a worried house wife.

Personal Opinion

I loved this book.  Really I did.  It reminded me a lot of another series that I am reading (The Hollows by Kim Harrison), but the main characters are of opposite sex.  I will admit, I fe1l in love with Harry Dresden.  He is the gentleman that every girl wants in her life and he knows magic.

I thought this book was an easy read, but not so easy that you would think it was written for a child.  The language was simple and consistent and the story progressed quick enough to keep me interested but not so quick that you felt something was missing.

I felt sorry for Dresden when no one believed he was innocent and I wanted him to have a better house.  Also, he is a wizard, how come the man doesn’t have more money?  He has a giant cat named Mister and a talking skull who keeps all the spells.  Who could ask for a better life.

This was only book 1 of a 15 book series and the last one has not been released yet.  I can’t wait to continue reading this series.  This book fulfilled every one of my interest.  There were demons, vampires, fairies, and magic.

I would suggest everyone to at least give this book a try.  Just read the first one.  It ends on a good note, where you could possibly stop there and not continue the series, but why would you want to do that?
