Craft Corner: Not So Crafty

Craft Corner

I skipped craft corner last week, and a bunch of other post. I have been working so much lately and trying to prove that I am a good choice for full time that everything else has been swept under the rug. Just yesterday I was wondering if I even wanted to continue writing post for my blog or let it go. Lucky for you all, writing is the only thing I am sure of and right now this is my only outlet for that writing need.

I haven’t created much in the past few weeks. I haven’t had time. I have cupcakes sitting in the kitchen right now because I am going to be making cake pops later today, but that will be for next weeks craft corner. Since I didn’t make anything I thought I would share a little something with you that I did make.

I read this article last week, you can read it HERE, about the benefits of pineapple water. The first try at pineapple water I made way too much and found out that it was only good for three days.

My mom and brother helped me drink it, but I still ended up pouring out about half of it. This water is supposed to have a few health benefits. If you didn’t read the article here are a few things that interested me about pineapple water.

  1. Fights Inflammation. Of course this is going to be my main concern. My issues with my ankle has a lot to do with inflammation so I am always looking for things to counteract that.
  2. Helps with Weight loss. If you are around on Sundays and read my Fitness Sunday post you would notice that I am trying semi-hard to lose weight. So this is perfect.
  3. Regulates the Thyroid. If you don’t know the thyroid is the part of the body that helps with metabolism. If it stops working, you gain a ton of weight and have to take medication. Not very scientific in my explanation, but that is basically what it is.
  4. Works as a digestive aid. Hello!! This also has a lot to do with weight loss. If that crap gets stuck in your system then you are going to lose weight a lot slower.

The other benefits that are listed in the article are as follows:

  1. Flushes parasites from liver and intestines.
  2. Balances Electrolytes
  3. Gets rid of heavy metals and toxins
  4. Strengthens gums and helps whiten and preserve teeth. Anyone else see preserve and think dead bodies?
  5. Improves vision
  6. Protects from cancer.

The last one always makes me roll my eyes. I bet there is an article out there somewhere that says pineapple causes cancer…or water causes cancer…or breathing causes cancer. And then there are a ton of things that prevent it too. The word cancer gets thrown around a lot!

Anyways, I thought I would share with you my process for preparing a few jars of this pineapple water. I am going to give it a test run and see if it makes a difference.

First you need three jars, a pineapple, and some ice and water.

I have this handy dandy pineapple cutter/peeler thing that helped me get my pineapple.

I was going to take a video of using it, but I didn’t have anyone to hold the camera. lol

You seriously just twist it into the pineapple.

Then you have perfect pineapple rings!

It makes cutting a pineapple so much easier. After you have your pineapple slices, separate them into three jars.

Add ice. This supposedly keeps the pineapple from floating and helps flavor the water.

Then add the water.

I put my in the fridge and drink one ever morning before I eat anything. The first day doesn’t taste too much like pineapple, but you can’t wait to drink these because they are only good for three days. I’m all about preparing ahead.

So, if you try this let me know what you think of it! I will let you know if it works for about two weeks.

My Craft Corner: Minnie Mouse Party

Craft Corner

Finally! I have a name for Mondays. For the past month I have been sharing my creations of the past week. I couldn’t think of anything to call it and I kind of didn’t want to add it to the schedule and make it a permanent thing. I don’t always get the chance to make something that I want to share, but everyday I am off work I try and make something.

This week was fantastic in creations though! I had to make cake pops and a smash cake for my cousins daughters first birthday. It all came out so wonderful too!

Minnie cake

The cake came out so great!! Like, I shocked myself with this one. The cake is white cake and the icing is my own homemade butter-cream icing. The one thing I learned from this is that I will never make a box white cake again. I need to find my own recipe because this cake wasn’t the best tasting.

The bow was made from sugar cookies and covered in candy melts. I was going to cover it in royal icing, but I couldn’t get my royal icing to work right. It wouldn’t thin out to where I could use it for flooding. I was so aggravated.

The cake shape was made using a 6inch cake pan for the face. The ears were made out of a square cake that I cut out with a giant cookie cutter. Like…who makes cookies that big?

The bow was made using two heart shapes and a circle. While the candy melts were drying I etched in the bow folds with a toothpick. And I iced the rest of the cake using a star tip. I am seriously in love with how well this turned out.

Minnie Cake pops

The cake pops were another great feat! I bought a box of stuff from a friend who is getting out of the cake making business. In all the stuff she gave me there was a chocolate mold of bows. Instead of using heart sprinkles I used the mold and it made the cake pops 100 times cuter. Again, IN LOVE! The pink was supposed to have white dots like Minnie’s dress, but I thought it looked terribly cute and simple like they are. So I kept it that way.

The only thing special I did to these was use mini oreos for the ears. I found that tip online while looking for Minnie Mouse cake pops. I heard they were delicious too.

DSCN1692After I finished the Minnie mouse cake pops I had some cake and candy melts left over, so I made these adorable things. Which, I will be giving away on my Facebook page for The Catch All Shop. Just click HERE to check it out.

And as promised, I said I would share with you how I decorate my agenda for the week. I once shared what my monthly calendar looks like, so here is what my weekly looks like.

DSCN1694I made the agenda myself. It’s in a composition notebook. So it’s really boring looking to start with. Which doesn’t help when I open it…I just don’t have the desire to keep up with it. So once a week I sit down and decorate it to death. Some weeks I go a little overboard. This week, I don’t think I added enough color…

The water drop things are for me to keep up with how much water I drink every day. Most days I fill in all the water drops, which is my goal of 3 liters. The little colorful dots on the side is where I write my work schedule. Every night I sit down at my desk and fill in the day. I write how I felt that day or anything I may find important to remember. If something important happens that week that I know will happen I usually use a piece of colorful tape on the day it happens and write on top of that. That way it pops out a little more.

The rest, the stickers…they are all completely random. I just try and make it as colorful as possible.

That is all I have for you this week. What did you create this past week?

Happy Monday!

I honestly hate Mondays. I always have to work because it’s truck day and I usually end the day in a lot of pain. So…Monday’s suck big harry monkey balls.

But, this past week I got to do a few things that made life a little nicer!

First, I made some sugar cookies. Everyone loved the taste…but who really wants just a sugar cookie?

IMG_2476I shaped a few of them like bows because I have a minnie mouse cake to make this week. I am going to be covering it in chocolate to make it pink. It’s probably going to cause problems.

I tried to make some royal icing, but I couldn’t get that stuff to thin out where I needed it. I was so frustrated!

The same day I had to update my calendars. Yep, I was a few days behind. But I went from boring…

To OMG colorful!!!

Hello April! I love decorating each month and every week. I might show you a weekly picture next week.

I have a friend that has being doing cakes and cake pops for 6 years. Sadly, her business is going out of business. Or, closing up shop for a few years. Because she didn’t want to have to find a place for all of her stuff, she decided to reach out to me and sell me what she had. Let me tell you, that was the best grab bag I have ever bought!

Because of all the stuff I got, I ran out of room to put everything. So while I was at work one day my mom went out and bought me a new cabinet. ^_^ My mom loves me. lol

Sorry the picture is a little blurry. It took me a few hours to get everything in there, just because I wanted to have some kind of organization going on. Which I do…but there are so many sprinkles I don’t know what to do. It makes me want to make a ton of cake pops just to use all the sprinkles.

But, my favorite part, some of the sprinkles are color coded and before I put them all in there I had this wonderful rainbow thing going on.

I can’t even tell you how happy my little nerd heart was when I started out. Of course, it’s jam packed with sprinkles now, but I had that one moment of rainbow bliss.

That is all I have for you today. I have to go get ready for a 9 hour shift at work. Which, I am sure doesn’t sound like a lot to most people, but in retail that is a long time!

Cakes and Cupcakes and Cakepops, Oh My!

This past week has been a week of fun. I have been playing around with cake pops again. It seems any time I have a day off work I am in the kitchen playing with cake pops. I have found love for them…or rather a rediscovered love for it. Around Christmas time I was having issues with the cake pops when dipping them in the melted chocolate. I actually found out that it was the chocolate that I was using. It was over a year old, still good, but it didn’t melt as well. I was using a ton of paramount crystals (used to thin out chocolate) and it was refusing to be the consistency that I needed.

About a week ago, my cousin put in an order for her daughters first birthday. She wants Minnie mouse cake pops and a mini mouse smash cake.

Now, if you don’t know, a smash cake is the small cake that a child gets on their first birthday. It’s the one that they smash their hands and face into. I have had so many people ask me what a smash cake was. I thought everyone knew.

Minnie Mouse cake

This is just a rough test of the Minnie Mouse cake. I am going to be covering it in buttercream icing instead of frosting. I will also add a pink bow that I will make out of royal icing. It will dry hard and make a perfect topper for the cake. Also, how else would you know that it was Minnie Mouse.

Minnie mouse cake pops

This is just another rough test of the Minnie Mouse cake pops. They are so adorable! I love how perfect they came out…well, perfect as in they will be perfect when I do the final run. I googled a few ways to do the Minnie mouse and found this option. In the process of making them I was worried that it wouldn’t turn out good, but once all the pieces came together it was awesome.

I had a few cake balls left after I figured out Minnie Mouse and decided to play a little more. I have seen the other cake pop people doing a lot of bride and groom cake pops so I wanted to try it. Mind you, at this point I only had black and pink chocolate so I was working with what I had.

groom cake pop

The groom actually reminded me a lot of Doctor Who. I guess the pink and the big red bow helps. But I did it! I made a groom just like all the other big wig cake pop makers. I feel like I am moving up in the world.

I showed my mom and she asked “What about the bride?” So I went back to the drawing board to see if I could do the bride as well.

Bride cake pops

Another rough test and I get a general idea of how I would do bride cake pops. It’s amazing! I seriously love them so much. I really feel like I am going some where with my business and I am perfecting my craft.

I still had some cake balls left and a few of them I had dipped to make grooms out of. It was late and I was tired. I also had to be at work at 8:30 the next morning so I had to get to bed. So…I was putting up the cake pops and I noticed something. If you turn the tuxedo cake pop upside down, they look like granny’s with buns. So I made faces for them.

Granny cake pops

How adorable are they? I want to work with the concept a little more to make a polished looking granny, but I like what I got from play time.

That was all I made this past week, but I feel like it was a productive week at least.

The Orders Roll In

I have been trying to build my business for a few weeks now. I have done several projects and even a few request. I am working on a wreath for a friend now.

While the things on my Etsy shop (you can check it out HERE) is not selling too well, I have been getting a lot of cake pop orders and this excites me terribly. I love doing cake pops and I can’t wait to have more orders to fill. Maybe even one day, I can quit my job and just deal with my online store and do cake pops and cakes.

My first order of cake pops was a request from a lady that I work with. She wanted bald man cake pops. Of course, I looked all over the internet to find some kind of guide for it, but in the end I made them my own way.

Hello bald man cake pops! I honestly loved these so much. They came out so perfect! I am not offering cake pops in my Etsy store right now because I have to figure out how to ship these adorable cakes on a stick. But once I figure out a safe way to ship them, I am offering them to the world! Or, you know, to the US.

I have a cake pop order for April and they want minnie mouse cake pops. I am super excited to make them! Then another cake pop order for May for cake pops with cow print.

The best part about it all is that I get to make some just to play with. And once I have made them once, I will be faster at making them the next time. It is so much fun to play around with cake pops and get better at my craft.

While it may not seem like a lot of orders right now, I am excited just to have the few that I do have so far. Soon enough I will have one a week instead of one a month. Hopefully by then I won’t be working so much at my part time job.

Yay…A Day Off

I always get excited when I have a day off work. It used to mean time to relax and catch up on all my shows. Of course, these days ended with me feeling slightly depressed because I didn’t do anything and I was alone all day. I have found that the way to happiness is to be around others. At least for me it is. I just love being around people…as long as they are in a good mood and not yelling at me.

Lately, a day off work doesn’t mean the same thing. I am several weeks behind on any show that I don’t watch with my parents and I haven’t been able to play Sims for several weeks. I played Sims just the other night, for about 2 hours and had to get off to watch a show with my parents. If I don’t watch it with them I either miss it or it sits in my recordings until I watch it or give up and delete it. Also, it’s about the only time that I get to spend with my family since we are all so busy lately.

I’m telling you, my poor puppy doesn’t even know me anymore. I really need to set aside some time everyday to play with her.

So, here is why I have been so busy lately. As you may already know, I have opened an online shop at Etsy. I have been doing crafts a-plenty, to have things to sell. Though, I haven’t even sold the first item yet. Sadness. But I didn’t expect it to be a big hit over night anyways. I just wanted to get my stuff out there.

Today, my first day off in like 6 days, I am spending making a cake pop order for a lady I work with. This, of course, will help spread the word of my business and bring in my customers.

To add on top of all the crafty stuff I have been doing, I have also had the pleasure of reviewing books over at The Reading Bud. So that takes up a little bit of time as well.

Plus, let’s add a few sprinkles┬áto this ice cream Sunday, I have been working hard on the short stories for the prompt challenge on Wednesdays.

The cherry on top? My fitness challenge between my family and I. Which has taken on a whole life of it’s own, growing bigger by the second. I am logging everything that I eat and trying to find better ways to log it. I haven’t been working out, which is horrible, but more on that Sunday.

And let’s add a spoon to the mix, you know, so you can eat this wonderful Sunday of awesomeness, I have been working on my book again. Going through it and seeing it for the outline that it is.

How does one function with so much going on in her life? A day off is a joke. It’s not a day of rest, it’s a day of more work. There is no such thing as a day off.

But it all boils down to the one goal I have set for myself that will take me through the rest of the year…

Work Harder

That’s the only thing that gets me through the day. Just reminding myself that if I want to make it in this world, I don’t have time to rest. Not right now anyways. I have to keep trucking through and fighting battles while I am still young enough to do so.

Soap Away!

This weekend I was finally able to make soap! It’s my first batch of cold process soap. My mom and I worked together to make it. I don’t have any pictures of what it looks like except in it’s mold.

The whole process took a little under an hour. I accidentally inhaled a few fumes from the lye and water solution. Oops. Other than that, it was pretty easy to do. If it turns out well I will be selling homemade soap on my Etsy page which you can find HERE.

A few more things that I made this week that are also available are two wreaths made for Easter.

Butterfly Spring EasterBunny

I thought they came out really cute!! But that is all the crafts I have from last week. It was actually rather productive. Compared to usual anyways.

Yesterday was such a beauitful day that I actually got out to take some pictures…and Pixel was a wonderful subject to photograph!

DSCN1650 DSCN1651

And being the nerd that I am I had to take a few pictures of the trees…I don’t know why I am so fascinated with trees. I just love how they stand against the sky.

DSCN1653 DSCN1654 DSCN1655

I realize that the ones with the sun in the back did not turn out too well, but I still like them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all…right?

I got out my camera instead of using my phone to take pictures. It’s been a while since I have used it, but I found a picture of Pixel! So…look at how adorable and small she once was!

Her adorable floppy ears. And for reference I took this picture for you…

Sorry for the bombarding of photos, but when I get out my camera I go a little crazy!

Happy Monday folks! I hope the day treats you well.

Oh, Life

This past weekend has been so busy. I even had a three day weekend and I feel like I need another one. Not to rest, but to get more done.

Friday I was able to go shopping with my mom. We were mainly trying to price things at different stores to see where we could get the cheapest things. That was an all day event and when we finally got home we had to put everything away.

Saturday, my mom and I cleaned and organized our craft room. Let me tell you…we got two bags of trash out of our craft room. It wasn’t trash, but things we have been holding on to that we realized we no longer need. It was a great cleansing moment. Then we organized everything and even made labels!

Here is a picture of the mess before…actually it was kind of during. It wasn’t this bad when we first started.

It was a mess. And after hours of cleaning and organizing we finally had a room we could work in!

It makes me happy to see it so clean. Excuse the shoe on the owl box…I seriously walked around for like two hours with just one shoe on. Simply because I was trying on my red glitter shoes and didn’t stop to put my other shoe back on. Evidently, it’s bad luck to walk around with one shoe on. At least that is what my mom said.

Sunday was so much fun. My mom and I got out all of our candle and soap making stuff and decided to test a few things. It was really fun and everything seems pretty easy right now. But we haven’t recieved all our supplies for making our own soap. We just used a melt and pour soap to test and I really hope that the homemade stuff is going to be as easy as the melt and pour stuff.

IMG_2342 (2)

I made some soap, colored it blue, and put in lavender fragrance with some lavender seeds.

I thought it turned out really pretty and it smells so good!!

I cut it up into little hand soaps and I may just try one out today.

Our candles didn’t turn out as well as the soap. The color wasn’t mixed in good before I poured a few of them, so the color kind of settled near the bottom, but it made an awesome ombre candle.

We made some wax melts as well. While the color is better in them, the fragrance doesn’t work too well, so we have to figure out how much fragrance to put in.

All in all, I had a really productive weekend, but I didn’t get to everything. I had lazy moments. Now I have cake pops to make, notebooks to put together, and wreaths to finish up. How do I still have so much to do?

How was your weekend?

Hello March!

It's a new dawn

Can you believe that it is already March?? Like…where did the time go? I have so much going on this month too. I’m so excited!!

First of all, there is a comic con this month. Last year was the first time that we had a comic con in Greenville, S.C. and it was awesome. I knew last year that I would be going again this year and I’m so excited. I can’t wait. Squee!!

And while we are on fandom sorts of things…RIP Mr. Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock.

Moving on. I finally have my business up on Etsy, as well as a Facebook page for it, so if you like handmade items you should keep an eye out for it. There isn’t much up yet, I am working on getting more. We are hoping in the near future to sale homemade soap and candles. My mom knows just about everything you need to know about essential oils and what they are good for, so we should have some interesting concoctions for scents. It’s going to be awesome!

I’m debating on creating a Facebook for my blog…I think I am waiting to hit 500 followers before I go doing all that. I might get there one day.

Next order of business, I have joined a group of readers over at Reading Bud. We will be doing book reviews all month, every month. I’m super excited about it to be honest. I have been looking for something like this for a while now and thanks to Galit over at Coffee n’ Notes, who shared the blog post asking for reviewers, and Heena, the owner of the Reading Bud blog, I am now a part of this great group.

And the last little thing that you should know about is…(pretend there is an epic drum roll here)…Writing Prompt!!

If you don’t know, back on February 6th (Original post) I decided I was going to take one writing prompt a month and write 4 short stories from that one prompt. I was going to start in February, but life happened and I got too far behind to make it work. So, I pushed it back to start in March. At the time I didn’t know that so much else was going to happen this month, but it’s going to be a fun ride.

The first writing prompt will be up Wednesday. I used to do this weekly thing called Wacky Wednesday, and I kind of want to keep something special going every Wednesday. I just like the day. It’s the day that you feel like you can breathe because the work week (if you don’t work retail) is coming to an end.

In case you forgot, the writing prompt for this month is…

Writing Prompt February

If you want to take this challenge with me, creating four completely different short stories from one writing prompt, please join me! Friday I will announce the writing prompt for April, so that we can all start writing those stories too.

That is all I got for you today. I hope everyone is as excited about March as I am. It’s going to be a grand month! Also, we are finally out of February!!

Make A Change

I have been a bum so far this year. I have not accomplished the first goal that I set to accomplish last month. I lounged around and thought about it. But that was about it. Lazy and not driven. I want to reach my goals. And I forget that to make it to the big picture I have to go through step by step to make it there. I forget that setting goals is like trying to lose weight. You can’t expect it all to happen over night. You have to set small milestones. You have to build the walk way to the finish line.

So, I failed last month. I started the year off rocky. But it’s okay. I can’t think about all the time I wasted, because I am just wasting more time that way. I have to think of the time before me. The time that I have waiting to be used. Nothing I can do about the lost time.

Here I am again, setting goals for the month of February and hoping that I can get myself under control and be disciplined enough to accomplish these tiny goals. I have to not only set monthly goals, but weekly and daily goals. I need to set these monthly goals, break them down into weekly goals, and break that down into daily goals. I need to force myself to sit down once a week and write out my daily goals, based on what monthly goals I have yet to accomplish. This is how organized people do it…right?

On to my goals for this month!

  1. Drink 3 liters of water a day.
  2. Work out once a week.
  3. Take on the squat challenge once again.squat-beginner
  4. Get back to taking my vitamins. I’m sure there is something my body needs that vitamins can provide
  5. Write everyday. No matter how many words, I just need to write something other than a blog.
  6. Start writing blogs in advance. I gotta stop sitting down at my computer and trying to find something to write about.
  7. Get my business bank account open.
  8. Make stuff to sell on my business Etsy account.
  9. Organize all the notes on things I can make.
  10. Spend more time with Pixel.
  11. Lose 2 pounds.

That is about all I have at the moment. I plan on challenging myself further at some point. These goals are simple and easy. And they all work towards a greater goal, something bigger that will be worth all the time and effort. I just have to push myself to do things. I have to be the adult that I am…but that doesn’t mean I have to start thinking like an adult. lol

I have a lot that I want to do with my life and I can’t do it the way I have been doing things in the past. Isn’t there a quote that says something about if you want something to change in your life, you have to make a change in yourself?
