My Craft Corner: Minnie Mouse Party

Craft Corner

Finally! I have a name for Mondays. For the past month I have been sharing my creations of the past week. I couldn’t think of anything to call it and I kind of didn’t want to add it to the schedule and make it a permanent thing. I don’t always get the chance to make something that I want to share, but everyday I am off work I try and make something.

This week was fantastic in creations though! I had to make cake pops and a smash cake for my cousins daughters first birthday. It all came out so wonderful too!

Minnie cake

The cake came out so great!! Like, I shocked myself with this one. The cake is white cake and the icing is my own homemade butter-cream icing. The one thing I learned from this is that I will never make a box white cake again. I need to find my own recipe because this cake wasn’t the best tasting.

The bow was made from sugar cookies and covered in candy melts. I was going to cover it in royal icing, but I couldn’t get my royal icing to work right. It wouldn’t thin out to where I could use it for flooding. I was so aggravated.

The cake shape was made using a 6inch cake pan for the face. The ears were made out of a square cake that I cut out with a giant cookie cutter. Like…who makes cookies that big?

The bow was made using two heart shapes and a circle. While the candy melts were drying I etched in the bow folds with a toothpick. And I iced the rest of the cake using a star tip. I am seriously in love with how well this turned out.

Minnie Cake pops

The cake pops were another great feat! I bought a box of stuff from a friend who is getting out of the cake making business. In all the stuff she gave me there was a chocolate mold of bows. Instead of using heart sprinkles I used the mold and it made the cake pops 100 times cuter. Again, IN LOVE! The pink was supposed to have white dots like Minnie’s dress, but I thought it looked terribly cute and simple like they are. So I kept it that way.

The only thing special I did to these was use mini oreos for the ears. I found that tip online while looking for Minnie Mouse cake pops. I heard they were delicious too.

DSCN1692After I finished the Minnie mouse cake pops I had some cake and candy melts left over, so I made these adorable things. Which, I will be giving away on my Facebook page for The Catch All Shop. Just click HERE to check it out.

And as promised, I said I would share with you how I decorate my agenda for the week. I once shared what my monthly calendar looks like, so here is what my weekly looks like.

DSCN1694I made the agenda myself. It’s in a composition notebook. So it’s really boring looking to start with. Which doesn’t help when I open it…I just don’t have the desire to keep up with it. So once a week I sit down and decorate it to death. Some weeks I go a little overboard. This week, I don’t think I added enough color…

The water drop things are for me to keep up with how much water I drink every day. Most days I fill in all the water drops, which is my goal of 3 liters. The little colorful dots on the side is where I write my work schedule. Every night I sit down at my desk and fill in the day. I write how I felt that day or anything I may find important to remember. If something important happens that week that I know will happen I usually use a piece of colorful tape on the day it happens and write on top of that. That way it pops out a little more.

The rest, the stickers…they are all completely random. I just try and make it as colorful as possible.

That is all I have for you this week. What did you create this past week?

Happy Monday!

I honestly hate Mondays. I always have to work because it’s truck day and I usually end the day in a lot of pain. So…Monday’s suck big harry monkey balls.

But, this past week I got to do a few things that made life a little nicer!

First, I made some sugar cookies. Everyone loved the taste…but who really wants just a sugar cookie?

IMG_2476I shaped a few of them like bows because I have a minnie mouse cake to make this week. I am going to be covering it in chocolate to make it pink. It’s probably going to cause problems.

I tried to make some royal icing, but I couldn’t get that stuff to thin out where I needed it. I was so frustrated!

The same day I had to update my calendars. Yep, I was a few days behind. But I went from boring…

To OMG colorful!!!

Hello April! I love decorating each month and every week. I might show you a weekly picture next week.

I have a friend that has being doing cakes and cake pops for 6 years. Sadly, her business is going out of business. Or, closing up shop for a few years. Because she didn’t want to have to find a place for all of her stuff, she decided to reach out to me and sell me what she had. Let me tell you, that was the best grab bag I have ever bought!

Because of all the stuff I got, I ran out of room to put everything. So while I was at work one day my mom went out and bought me a new cabinet. ^_^ My mom loves me. lol

Sorry the picture is a little blurry. It took me a few hours to get everything in there, just because I wanted to have some kind of organization going on. Which I do…but there are so many sprinkles I don’t know what to do. It makes me want to make a ton of cake pops just to use all the sprinkles.

But, my favorite part, some of the sprinkles are color coded and before I put them all in there I had this wonderful rainbow thing going on.

I can’t even tell you how happy my little nerd heart was when I started out. Of course, it’s jam packed with sprinkles now, but I had that one moment of rainbow bliss.

That is all I have for you today. I have to go get ready for a 9 hour shift at work. Which, I am sure doesn’t sound like a lot to most people, but in retail that is a long time!

Cakes and Cupcakes and Cakepops, Oh My!

This past week has been a week of fun. I have been playing around with cake pops again. It seems any time I have a day off work I am in the kitchen playing with cake pops. I have found love for them…or rather a rediscovered love for it. Around Christmas time I was having issues with the cake pops when dipping them in the melted chocolate. I actually found out that it was the chocolate that I was using. It was over a year old, still good, but it didn’t melt as well. I was using a ton of paramount crystals (used to thin out chocolate) and it was refusing to be the consistency that I needed.

About a week ago, my cousin put in an order for her daughters first birthday. She wants Minnie mouse cake pops and a mini mouse smash cake.

Now, if you don’t know, a smash cake is the small cake that a child gets on their first birthday. It’s the one that they smash their hands and face into. I have had so many people ask me what a smash cake was. I thought everyone knew.

Minnie Mouse cake

This is just a rough test of the Minnie Mouse cake. I am going to be covering it in buttercream icing instead of frosting. I will also add a pink bow that I will make out of royal icing. It will dry hard and make a perfect topper for the cake. Also, how else would you know that it was Minnie Mouse.

Minnie mouse cake pops

This is just another rough test of the Minnie Mouse cake pops. They are so adorable! I love how perfect they came out…well, perfect as in they will be perfect when I do the final run. I googled a few ways to do the Minnie mouse and found this option. In the process of making them I was worried that it wouldn’t turn out good, but once all the pieces came together it was awesome.

I had a few cake balls left after I figured out Minnie Mouse and decided to play a little more. I have seen the other cake pop people doing a lot of bride and groom cake pops so I wanted to try it. Mind you, at this point I only had black and pink chocolate so I was working with what I had.

groom cake pop

The groom actually reminded me a lot of Doctor Who. I guess the pink and the big red bow helps. But I did it! I made a groom just like all the other big wig cake pop makers. I feel like I am moving up in the world.

I showed my mom and she asked “What about the bride?” So I went back to the drawing board to see if I could do the bride as well.

Bride cake pops

Another rough test and I get a general idea of how I would do bride cake pops. It’s amazing! I seriously love them so much. I really feel like I am going some where with my business and I am perfecting my craft.

I still had some cake balls left and a few of them I had dipped to make grooms out of. It was late and I was tired. I also had to be at work at 8:30 the next morning so I had to get to bed. So…I was putting up the cake pops and I noticed something. If you turn the tuxedo cake pop upside down, they look like granny’s with buns. So I made faces for them.

Granny cake pops

How adorable are they? I want to work with the concept a little more to make a polished looking granny, but I like what I got from play time.

That was all I made this past week, but I feel like it was a productive week at least.

The Orders Roll In

I have been trying to build my business for a few weeks now. I have done several projects and even a few request. I am working on a wreath for a friend now.

While the things on my Etsy shop (you can check it out HERE) is not selling too well, I have been getting a lot of cake pop orders and this excites me terribly. I love doing cake pops and I can’t wait to have more orders to fill. Maybe even one day, I can quit my job and just deal with my online store and do cake pops and cakes.

My first order of cake pops was a request from a lady that I work with. She wanted bald man cake pops. Of course, I looked all over the internet to find some kind of guide for it, but in the end I made them my own way.

Hello bald man cake pops! I honestly loved these so much. They came out so perfect! I am not offering cake pops in my Etsy store right now because I have to figure out how to ship these adorable cakes on a stick. But once I figure out a safe way to ship them, I am offering them to the world! Or, you know, to the US.

I have a cake pop order for April and they want minnie mouse cake pops. I am super excited to make them! Then another cake pop order for May for cake pops with cow print.

The best part about it all is that I get to make some just to play with. And once I have made them once, I will be faster at making them the next time. It is so much fun to play around with cake pops and get better at my craft.

While it may not seem like a lot of orders right now, I am excited just to have the few that I do have so far. Soon enough I will have one a week instead of one a month. Hopefully by then I won’t be working so much at my part time job.

Where Did the Month Go?

I am terribly sorry I have been so horrible at writing post this month. Things are a little crazy and hectic and busy. Oh my! Some days I feel like my head is going to spin off. Other days I have so much I want to do that I end up doing nothing at all. I hate days like that.

I am almost done making Christmas gifts, yay! I have all my decorations up. That includes two wreaths that I made and two garlands that I put together. I am a crafty little bee this year. I even made a gingerbread house! Finally! I get one every year and end up throwing it all away because I haven’t put it together. It was so much fun though!

10857789_10153030001688474_3375723801393907614_nSeriously, if I had known gingerbread houses were so much fun, I would have done it a long time ago! Next year I want to make the whole thing myself from scratch. I like doing things like that. I like to imagine that a little Christmas fairy is living in it right now, making sure my family has a wonderful Christmas.

I have hung the stockings and decorated the entertainment center, but I only have one picture.

Sorry for the weird angle. I took the picture in a hurry. But how cute are the little gingerbread men stocking hangers? I love them so much! Pixel even has a stocking this year.

I plan on taking more pictures soon if I ever get the chance. And I will be sharing the Christmas gifts that I made, after the holiday is over. I’m getting so excited for Christmas! Sunday I have to make a ton of cake pops and hope and pray I still know how to make them. LOL It has been a year since I have made a cake pop. I just haven’t given myself time to make them.

Which brings me to my next topic. Getting organized! I have so many things in the works. 2015 is going to be the year I perfect my brand and get my name out there. It’s the year that I finish and edit the three books waiting for me. It’s the year that I will make sure I have time to write every day. It will also be the year I stop letting things sit on the back shelf waiting for the “prefect” time to get done. I have so many ideas that will bring in some money. One of my goals for 2015 is to have a successful business up and going. Successful as in, I am consistently working on it and it’s actually bringing in some kind of profit. Not successful as in I am going to be a billionaire by 2016, though I guess that isn’t completely out of the picture.

That’s all I have for you now folks. Please, share your Christmas decorations with me. Or what ever holiday you celebrate this time of year. I love seeing all the wonderful decorations.

Until Next time

Monday Madness: What’s to come!?

Going to start cake decorating classes soon!

I had such a blast this weekend.  I went out to eat and to the movies with some friends and my brother as a birthday celebration.  Then Sunday I went to church, a craft store and out to eat with my mom…and the usual grocery shopping.  I have so much going on, it’s crazy! If I stay on top of things I don’t know when I am going to have time to have fun.  Although, most of what I am doing is fun!  Everything but the part where I go to work.

Since I am kind of lazy…here is what I have to say today in pictures!  Actually, it’s acting all funny and the pictures won’t go in like I want them too with the text!  It’s rather annoying and I am too tired to deal with it right now.  Enjoy your Monday folks!

This is what my brother got me for my birthday. I will use it to display the jewelry I make!

Happy Birthday To Me

I took a break yesterday, seeing as it was my birthday.  I am officially two years away from being 30.  With that in mind, I started thinking about my life, where I am in life, and where I want to go in life.  Luckily, I am kind of sort of on track with where I want to be.

My biggest dream has always been to be a well known author.  I just want people to read my stories.  I self published my first book last year and I have been working on my second book this year.  I started taking some classes on freelance writing to improve my writing as far as grammar and sentence structure goes.  I would like to try to go the more traditional route and have a publisher pick up my work.  I think it’s good enough for the masses, I just have to perfect it.  I am my biggest critic though, and it’s never perfect to me.  I just want to prove to myself that I can capture the eye of the publishers.

My newest dream, a dream I just discovered, I want to own my own bakery.  I want to make cakes, pies, cake pops, pastries.  I want to do it all.  I will be starting next month with some cake decorating classes, and as you have seen on my blog, I am experimenting with new recipes. It’s something that I have a passion for.  It’s fun to put your heart into a cake or cake pops.  In the end you have a beautiful work of art that people will admire 10 seconds before they devour it.  Then their eyes will light up with how amazing it taste!  Even though my art doesn’t last forever, it will bring joy into someones life.

There are things in my life that I need to work on.  I want to be in the best shape ever by time I turn 30.  I want to be one of those gorgeous 30 year olds that enjoys everything in life.  I want to be a runner and a health nut.  That gives me two years to get this whole fitness thing down!

Yesterday was such an amazing day.  I was center of attention, which as a Leo, I loved!  But it wasn’t just about being center of attention.  For most of my life I have felt like an outsider. I always felt there was no where I belonged.  I thought that the only people who would love me unconditionally would be my parents and my brother.  I have family that tend to forget about me, and I am sure they somewhat hate me too.  I don’t know why, I have always been a good person.

I had so many birthday wishes posted on Facebook.  Everyone at work was telling me happy birthday.  I even got a card and cookies from work.  My favorite part of the day was going to church.  I have always been such a closed off person.  I find it really hard to let people in, and at church last night I realized, my walls have started to fall.  These wonderful people that I have met and become friends with are slowly chipping away and this wall built with fear and sometimes hate.  The students of the youth group just melt it away like it was nothing.  I am learning to love again.  I am learning to trust again.  I am learning that I am no longer alone in this world, and I never really was.  I have a group of people who are not blood related, that love me more than some of my blood related family does.  And it’s nice to wake up and see what has been there waiting for me to see.  A family that choose to love me because its what they do.

Manic Monday: Shopping Spree

It’s raining and all I want to do is sleep.  Sadly, I am stuck at work for at least 4 more hours.  I often feel like work is a waste of time, because there are so many things I could be doing at home right now.  Lucky for you, I have access to my blog while at work and can post when I have a free moment.

Yesterday, I decided I needed a break from blogging.  I didn’t have much to blog about and I had ton of other stuff to do! Like shopping. Yes, I went shopping yesterday.  It’s funny, I used to go shopping to buy clothes, sunglasses, shoes…you know, all that fun stuff.  But now, my shopping consist of buying stuff for cake pops, crafts, baking, and anything I can get my hands dirty with.

iphone 003So, I got stuff for cakes and pies and cake pops!  I bought a pastry cutter, for my pies that I made.  A pastry brush, which I forgot to use.  I have new cookie cutters for Halloween cake pops and sprinkles as well.  I’m so excited.

iphone 002I also got a pattern for an apron and cloth to make three aprons.  Two for Halloween and one to suit my love for skulls.  This will be my first sewing project, there is no telling how horrible it will turn out, but I could end up being a natural!

Don’t worry, I will keep you updated on all projects.  Tomorrow I will share with you the pies I made and Thursday will be cake pops…though, they will not be Halloween yet.  Did I mention that I love Halloween??  It’s the best time of the year and I am happy that the craft stores are already stocking for it.

That’s all I got for today.  Have a safe and wonderful Monday folks!

BTW: If you have any baking or sewing tips, please share!

Cake Pops: Baby Faces

Made for St. Patrick’s day.

Random Cake pops to test out Peanut Butter candy coating

I have been making cake pops for a while now.  I started off just reading stuff on the internet about them.  I don’t even know what made me want to do them.  I read about them and the next day I was at the craft store getting all I needed for them.  I then took a few classes and learned new techniques and nifty tips.  I love making cake pops.  They are so much fun, though, I haven’t learned how to just do a few at a time.  I usually do a whole cake worth of cake pops.  This is just because I love making them so much! I have been doing simple ones up until now.  Most of them just round with fun sprinkles on them.

I ventured out a little bit for Christmas and made these really awesome teddy bear cake pops.  I can’t find a picture of them though.  I just recently made 50 for a silver anniversary for a guy I work with. After I posted a picture of them, another friend contacted me for some cake pops.  She needed some for a baby shower.  At first I was thinking simple.  I was just going to do cake pops with fun baby colors, but I wanted something more.  I racked my brain for a while, then I came across a book for cake pops.  I had a book once before, but everything was made with fondant and that stuff is not fun to play with and it doesn’t taste very good.  So I kind of trashed the book.

Cake pop book

Awesome book!

baby cake pops

My inspiration

One day while I was at Target with my mom I came across this awesome book for making cake pops.  There are so many awesome ideas in this book!!  I found the baby cake pops in here.  I loved the way they looked, they were so adorable.  So I sent the picture to a friend to see how she liked them.  She loved them, so I got busy finding the supplies to make them.

The bows are made with melted candy, and I could not replicate them.  I tried so hard and couldn’t make a bow with the melted candy.  Also, the faces are drawn on with a pen…I have edible pens, but they were not made for melted candies!  So, it didn’t work out.  I had to take the concept of these cake pops and make them my own.  I still did the candy necklace candies for the pacifier, but I added a little more to it.  I was so excited how well they turned out!

baby girl cake popsBaby girl cake pops 2

How adorable are they?!  I used sprinkle hearts and sugar pearl sprinkles for the bow.  Some of the melted candy, and pink sprinkles for the head band.  I used black pearl sprinkles for the eyes.  I also used the melted candy for the nose.  I put a little of the melted candy inside the candy necklace candies and dipped it in the same pink sprinkles I used for the bands.  I used strawberry cake and cream cheese frosting for the cake balls.  I think they turned out adorably, and I hope to make them again soon.  I think next time I make them they will be even better.

I got word from my friend that everyone at the baby shower loved them. I wish I had gotten better pictures of them.

If you want to know how to make cake pops, just keep coming back.  I will share with you some of the tips and tricks that I have learned since I started making them.  They are so much fun and so easy to make.

If you have tried these or plan to, please share! I would love to see how others made them different!

Time to Revamp

I have let this blog sit in the wasteland collecting dust long enough.  I have been thinking for a few weeks now “What can I do with this blog?” Obviously my awkward life does not just consist of stumbling on my words, or tripping over flat surfaces.  I am actually a very crafty and creative person.  I am always trying something new.

With that in mind I decided, this blog needs to be about the other awkward parts of my life.  It needs to be about the failed attempts at new cake pop adventures and learning to sew.  It needs to be about all the projects that I have decided I want to do.

Every week I want to try a new recipe, like a few weeks ago I tried a recipe for peanut butter cake. It was really good and everyone loved it.  I took some to work and some to church, as well as leaving some at home.  I made two that week, the second one was obviously better.  I will share that adventure with you.

I will update every week on projects that can’t be done in one sitting, like my venture into learning to sew! I also like to do jewelry and I will share that too.  I frequent on pinterest…I want to actually try some of those fun crafts too! I may even share some of my gaming adventures (which is basically Sims at this point.)

But don’t get confused, this is not a strictly craft blog.  I will still share my random embarrassing stories, and I am even thinking about reintroducing Wacky Wednesday, which is where I take my normal day and share with you how I actually see it.  Word or warning, I live in a fantasy world.

So, look forward to seeing a ton more from me.  More stories, more crafts, more awkward, and more fun. It’s time to have a little more fun in life!
