What does your Story Sound Like?

Stories and music are almost the same thing.  Think about it, we read to escape.  When we are upset or want to drain out the world, we listen to music.  They are two things that help us leave our troubles behind for a moment and relax.  I don’t know about you, but writing does the same thing for me. So it’s all the same.

When I am on Twitter and I post about writing, I usually use the tag #happyplace, because writing is my happy place.  I don’t just write, I have music playing too.  Now, when I read I usually just have the background noise of everyone else in the house.  Writing, I need music to distract my mind from all the crap going on around me.

I used to think it was weird how authors had playlist for their books.  I didn’t understand what it meant, to be honest.  I didn’t know if it was the feeling of the book or if it was what they listened to while writing.  Now, I understand!  I don’t know when it happened or how, but I have become one of those writers that has a soundtrack for her book.  It’s just my current WIP that has spiked this sudden understanding.

My story right now is being written to the soundtrack of Queen of the Damned, one of my favorite movies. I have started writing without music, get distracted and lose track of where my story was going.  I turn on the music and I am good to go.  I even tried other music, but for some reason, this soundtrack is what has gotten me through this book.  I can’t wait to see what gets me through the next book.  Maybe it’s just the fact that I love that soundtrack, but I get excited about the idea of telling people what I listened to when writing my book.

How about all my other writers out there?  What do you listen to when writing?  Or do you just go to a quiet place? Do you have book soundtracks?
