Crafty Gurl: Polymer Clay Bracelet

I decided I wanted to play with some polymer clay and I had been watching a ton of videos.  I settled on one video about Mokume Gane Polymer Clay Canes.  I didn’t think it was going to work my first time, but it actually came out really awesome.  You can see the video HERE.  I didn’t take a picture of all the steps, so if you like the end result and want to do it yourself, check out the video.

Roll out

I used three shades of blue and rolled them out.  I rolled out three squares of each color.  I then stacked the colors.  Light blue, medium blue, and dark blue.  One of each and then started back with the light blue.  I then cut down the sides down so that everything was even.  For some reason none of my squares were the same size…something I need to work on.

I took my round cookie cutter and cut random curves into the stack, making sure to keep everything together.  Gently press everything together just so everything stays together.  I then cut the clay in half and layered the two pieces.  Gently press everything together and cut in half again and stack the two pieces.  Gently press the pieces again once more.

Cut and StackedI ended up with something like that.  I was a little worried that I had messed up and it wasn’t going to work.  But the next step was to slice a piece off of the end to see what awaits inside.

CutYeah!! I was so excited that it worked.  So I cut out the rest of the cane.

Cut up Pieces

I had a ton of scraps from the project so I just started making random beads.

Necklace Beads Extra Beads

I even went through the trouble of making a piece for a necklace.

But the necklace will come later.  I sat down and made a bracelet out of the rectangle pieces and some wire.  It turned out really cute.

It might be a little plain, but for my first polymer clay project I think it turned out really awesome.  I can’t wait to learn more tecniques and get better at making canes and pieces.  My next venture will be figuring out how I want to make the necklace and maybe even some earrings!
